All-wheel drive
In all drive programs, with the exception of A, drive will always be optimally
distributed across both axles. In the A drive program, it will be primarily the
rear axle that is used and drive will be distributed across both axles depending
on the situation.
This will ensure that recuperation is utilised effectively and that the vehicle
range is extended (/page271).
The torque vectoring system improves vehicle traction together with ESP
®
if a
drive wheel spins due to insufficient grip.
If you fail to adapt your driving style, the all-wheel drive system can neither
reduce the risk of an accident nor override the laws of physics. It cannot take
into account road, weather or traffic conditions. The all-wheel drive system is
only an aid. You are responsible in particular for maintaining a safe distance
from the vehicle in front, for vehicle speed, for braking in good time and for
staying in lane.
%
In wintry road conditions, the maximum effect of the all-wheel
drive system can be achieved only if you use winter tyres (M+S
tyres), with snow chains if necessary.
