Function of the LOW RANGE off-road gear
&
WARNING
Risk of skidding and accident on slippery road surfaces in LOW
RANGE
ON SLIPPERY ROAD SURFACES, THE WHEELS MAY LOSE GRIP IN
THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS IN PARTICULAR:

If you take your foot off the accelerator pedal while driving.
R
When you accelerate the vehicle quickly.
R
If off-road ABS intervenes during braking.

Never activate LOW RANGE off-road gear on slippery road
surfaces.
In the GRock drive program, you can engage the LOW RANGE off-road
gear with a reduction to increase the drive torque.
The handling and responsiveness of your vehicle will then be optimised for
capably dealing with difficult unpaved terrain involving steep inclines. The
smart off-road crawl function of the drive system will be switched on automat‐
ically and will always be active. Depending on the gradient, the drive system
will also assist the service brake by delivering increased braking torque.

REQUIREMENTS:
R
You are not driving on a paved or public road.
R
The GRock drive program is selected.
R
You are driving at a speed no greater than 40km/h.

Press the + button 2.
If all conditions have been fulfilled, activation indicator lamp 3 will light
up. The shift request will stay active for a maximum of 30seconds.
#
Shift the transmission to position i.
Once the shift operation is complete, function indicator lamp
1 will
light up. A message reading
LOW RANGE on will appear on the driver
display and an audible signal will sound.
#
Shift the transmission to position h.

At speeds below 3km/h, you must depress the brake pedal when
you shift from i to h. At 3km/h or higher, the brakes no
longer have to be applied to shift to h.

After the vehicle is restarted, the LOW RANGE off-road gear will
remain engaged.
DISENGAGING THE LOW RANGE OFF-ROAD GEAR
REQUIREMENTS:

You driving at a speed no greater than 70km/h.

Press the + button 2.
The shift request will stay active for a maximum of 30seconds. If all
requirements have not been fulfilled within this time, shift operation
must be started again.

Shift the transmission to position i.
Once the shift operation is complete, function indicator lamp
1 will
light up. A message reading
LOW RANGE off will appear on the driver
display and an audible signal will sound.

When you deactivate the LOW RANGE off-road gear, the
G
Rock drive program will remain selected. If you want to
leave the off-road terrain and remove the restrictions on the
driving and driving safety systems, you will need to change the
drive program (/page275).
