Checking the coolant level
engine fluids
When the engine is cold, visually inspect
the translucent coolant reservoir.
The amount of coolant is satisfactory if
the level is between the "FULL" and
"LOW" marks on the tank. If the fluid level
is low, add coolant.
(Coolant Type - See "Selecting Coolant
Type" below.)
The coolant level in the reservoir will fluctuate
depending on the engine temperature.
Petrol engine –
However, if the level is at or below the "LOW"
line, add coolant. Add the coolant to the
"FULL" line.
To ensure excellent lubrication performance
for your engine, Toyota recommends "Toyota
Genuine Motor Oil" which has been specially
tested and approved for all Toyota engines.
Diesel engine –
However, if the level is below the "LOW" line,
add coolant. Add coolant between the "FULL"
and "LOW" marks.
For more details on "Toyota Genuine Motor
Oil" please contact any authorized Toyota
dealer or service center. Other engine oils of
the same quality can also be used.
If the coolant level drops within a short time
after topping up, the coolant may be leaking
through leaks in the system. Visually inspect
the radiator, hoses, radiator cap, drain cock
and water pump.
If no leakage is detected, have the cap
pressure and cooling system checked for
leaks by any authorized Toyota dealer or
service center, or another properly qualified
and equipped professional.
WARNING
When the engine is hot, do not remove
the radiator cap (gasoline engine), or
the coolant tank cap or breather valve
(diesel engine) to avoid burns.
Diesel engine - If replacement is necessary, take the
vehicle to any authorized Toyota dealer or workshop, or
to another properly qualified and equipped professional.
