Driving with the boot lid or wing doors open
Driving with an open boot lid or open wing doors is particularly dangerous. All objects and an open boot lid or open
wing doors must be secured properly. Take the appropriate measures to reduce the amount of poisonous exhaust
fumes that could enter the vehicle.
Make sure you observe any legal requirements when driving with an open boot lid or open wing doors.
WARNING
Driving the vehicle with the boot lid or wing doors open or unlocked can cause serious injuries.
Always drive with the boot lid and wing doors closed.
Always stow all objects securely in the luggage compartment. Loose objects can fall out of the luggage
compartment and injure road users who are driving behind.
Always drive carefully and ensure that you think ahead.
Avoid any abrupt or sudden driving and braking manoeuvres as they can cause the open boot lid and wing doors
to move unpredictably.
Any objects protruding from the luggage compartment must be marked to ensure that they are visible to other
road users. Comply with legal regulations.
If items do protrude out of the luggage compartment, never use the boot lid or wing doors to jam or hold them in
position.
If you have to drive the vehicle with the boot lid or wing doors open, remove any racks and loads from the boot lid
and wing doors.
WARNING
Poisonous exhaust fumes can get into the interior when the boot lid or wing doors are open. This can result in loss
of consciousness, carbon monoxide poisoning, serious injury and accidents.
Always drive with the wing doors and boot lid closed to prevent toxic exhaust fumes entering the vehicle.
If you have to drive with an open boot lid or open wing doors in exceptional circumstances, comply with the
following instructions to reduce the amount of toxic exhaust fumes entering the vehicle:
Close all windows.
Switch off the air recirculation mode of the heating and fresh air system or air conditioning system.
Open all vents in the dash panel.
Switch the blower for the heating and fresh air system or for the air conditioning system to the highest setting.
NOTICE
Opening the wing doors and boot lid changes the length and height of the vehicle.
