facing downhill, and release the clutch pedal.
7. Take your foot off the brake pedal.
8. Turn the steering wheel slightly if necessary to engage the steering lock.
9. Exit the vehicle. Take all vehicle keys with you.
10. Please ensure that all occupants, in particular children, leave the vehicle.
11. Lock the vehicle.
Additional points for parking on uphill and downhill gradients
Before switching off the engine, turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels will roll against the kerb if the
parked vehicle starts to move.
When facing downhill, turn the wheels so that they face the kerb.
When facing uphill, turn the wheels so that they face the centre of the road.
WARNING
The components of the exhaust system become very hot. This can cause fires and serious injuries.
Never park the vehicle where parts of the exhaust system can come into contact with inflammable material
underneath the vehicle, e.g. undergrowth, leaves, dry grass, spilt fuel, oil etc.
WARNING
The vehicle may roll away if you leave and park the vehicle incorrectly. This can cause accidents and serious injuries.
Before leaving the vehicle, ensure that the electronic parking brake is switched on and that the indicator lamp
in the instrument cluster display lights up red when the ignition is switched off.
Never remove the vehicle key from the ignition lock when the vehicle is in motion. The steering lock may be
activated and you will no longer be able to steer or control the vehicle.
Never leave children or people requiring assistance alone in the vehicle. They could release the electronic parking
brake, move the selector lever or gearshift lever and thus set the vehicle in motion.
Always take all vehicle keys with you every time you leave the vehicle. The engine can be started and electrical
equipment such as the window controls can be operated. This can cause serious injury.
Never leave children or people requiring assistance alone in the vehicle. They could become trapped in the vehicle
in an emergency and may not be able to get themselves to safety. For example, locked vehicles may be subjected
to very high or very low temperatures depending on the season. This can cause serious injuries and illness or
fatalities, especially among small children.
NOTICE
241
Objects that protrude from the ground can damage the bumper and other components when parking the vehicle.
Always take care when driving into parking spaces with high kerbs or fixed boundaries. Stop before the wheels
touch the fixed boundaries or kerbs.
Low-lying vehicle components such as the bumper, spoiler and parts of the running gear, engine or exhaust
system could be damaged. Drive carefully through dips in the road and also over driveways, ramps, kerbs and
other objects.

WARNING
The intelligent Auto Hold function cannot overcome the laws of physics, and operates only within the limits of the
system. Do not let the extra convenience afforded by the Auto Hold function tempt you into taking any safety risks
when driving.
Make sure that the indicator lamp or lights up green or red on the instrument cluster display if the
vehicle is to be held securely. The vehicle is being held with the Auto Hold function when the indicator lamp is
green; the electronic parking brake is applied when the lamp is red.
Never leave the vehicle if the engine is running and the Auto Hold function is switched on.
In some cases, the Auto Hold function cannot hold the vehicle sufficiently on uphill gradients or brake it
sufficiently on downhill gradients, e.g. if the ground is slippery or icy.
NOTICE
Always switch off the Auto Hold function before driving into a car wash. Damage could otherwise be caused as a
result of the electronic parking brake switching on automatically.
Safety notes on the parking systems
The parking systems include the following:
Park Distance Control .
Rear view camera system .
Park Assist .
Rear Traffic Alert (→ Rear Traffic Alert).
Trailer manoeuvring system (Trailer Assist) .
The available systems depend on the vehicle equipment level.
Limits of sensors and cameras
There are various sensors and cameras on the vehicle which detect and monitor the area around the vehicle by means
of ultrasound, radar waves and optical systems. The various parking systems use different combinations of the
sensors. Common to all sensors is the fact that they are subject to technical and physical limits →
.
The sensors or cameras may not detect some objects, e.g. trailer drawbars, thin bars, fences, posts, trees, very low
or high obstacles, and boot lids that are open or being opened.
The detection ranges of the sensors have blind spots in which obstacles and people are not registered.
In some cases, dirt or ice and water on the sensors and cameras could be registered as an obstacle or impair
detection of objects. The sensor visibility may be impaired by dirt and snow or also residue from cleaning agents or
coatings.
External sources of sound and certain surfaces on objects and clothing may influence the sensors' signals. In
certain circumstances, the systems will be unable to detect or properly detect people and objects.
246
It may be difficult or impossible to see objects such as narrow posts or railings on the screen because of its low
resolution or poor light conditions.
The cameras show only two-dimensional images on the screen. The lack of depth of field means that potholes and
protruding objects on the ground may only be detected with difficulty, or may not be detected at all.
The system displays the orientation lines irrespective of the area surrounding the vehicle. There is no automatic
obstacle detection. Drivers must judge for themselves whether the vehicle will fit into the parking space.
WARNING
The intelligent technology used in the parking systems cannot overcome the laws of physics, and functions only
within the system limits. Never let the extra convenience afforded by the parking systems tempt you into taking any
risks when driving. The parking systems cannot replace the full concentration of the driver.
Always adapt your speed and driving style to suit visibility, weather, road and traffic conditions.
Unintentional vehicle movements can cause serious injury.
Keep looking in the direction in which you are parking and at the relevant area surrounding the vehicle.
Do not allow the displays in the instrument cluster and the images shown in the Infotainment system to distract
you from the traffic.
Always monitor the area around the vehicle as the parking systems will not always detect infants, animals and
objects.
The parking systems have blind spots in which obstacles and people are not registered.
External sources of sound and certain surfaces on objects and clothing may influence the sensors' signals. In
certain circumstances, the systems will be unable to detect or properly detect people and objects.
Certain objects, for example narrow posts or railings, may be difficult or impossible to see on the screen because
of its low resolution or poor light conditions.
If objects are approached too quickly, the response times for the signals and displays of the parking systems may
not be fast enough for a warning to be issued.
NOTICE
The ultrasound sensors may not always be able to detect objects such as trailer drawbars, thin bars, fences, posts,
trees and open or opening boot lids. This can result in damage to your vehicle.
NOTICE
Observe a distance of 50 cm from walls and buildings in parking spaces without kerbs in order to avoid damage to
the vehicle.
NOTICE
If an ultrasound sensor fails, the corresponding ultrasound sensor group area is switched off and cannot be
reactivated until the fault has been rectified. Consult a qualified workshop in the event of a system fault.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles recommends using a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealership for this
purpose.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles recommends that drivers practise using the parking systems in a traffic-
calmed area or car park to allow them to familiarise themselves with the systems and their functions.
Automatic braking intervention
The automatic braking intervention serves to reduce collisions.
If the vehicle is equipped with the automatic braking intervention function, this can initiate emergency braking as
soon as an obstacle is detected when driving forward and reversing.
The following systems may be available depending on the vehicle equipment:
Manoeuvre braking function of Park Distance Control .
Emergency braking function of Park Assist .
247
Rear Traffic Alert emergency braking function (→ Rear Traffic Alert).
When does an automatic braking intervention take place?
The following prerequisites must be met for an automatic braking intervention:
The vehicle does not exceed a maximum speed of around 10 km/h(6 mph) when manoeuvring.
A parking system is active.
An obstacle is detected by the system.
The automatic braking intervention does not take place if Park Distance Control has been activated automatically
when driving forwards (→ Park Distance Control).
What happens when an automatic braking intervention takes place?
The vehicle is braked.
OR: The vehicle is braked to a standstill and can then be held for around 1.5 secondsS. tep on the brake!
Switching off
The automatic braking intervention function is switched off as soon as a parking system is deactivated.
The manoeuvre braking function can be permanently deactivated. Press the button on the control panel in the
centre console (→ Driver side). Then touch the
function button in the Infotainment system and adjust the
setting.
You can cancel the automatic braking intervention performed by manoeuvre braking by pressing the accelerator→
.
Switching on
The automatic braking intervention function is active as soon as a parking system has been activated.
Manoeuvre braking is activated automatically each time the ignition is switched on, provided that the function has
not been permanently deactivated in the Infotainment system.
Things to note for trailer towing
If an electrically connected trailer is hitched to the factory-fitted towing bracket, the following restrictions apply :
The manoeuvre braking function is deactivated automatically.
The parking system must be manually deactivated for trailer towing if a non-factory-fitted towing bracket is used.
WARNING
Do not let the automatic braking intervention triggered of the parking systems tempt you to take any risks while
driving. In some situations the automatic brake intervention can only work in a limited way or not at all. Collisions
with obstacles can cause injuries to persons and vehicle damage. The system is not a substitute for the full
concentration of the driver.
Always pay due attention and do not rely exclusively on the parking systems.
Always be prepared to brake and steer the vehicle yourself.
Do not take any safety risks.
React appropriately to the warnings and driving recommendations of the parking systems.
Automatic braking intervention of the park assist steering is terminated after approximately 1.5 seconds. Depress
248
the brake pedal of the vehicle yourself following the automatic braking intervention.
Switch off the parking system if automatic braking intervention takes place too frequently, e.g. when driving
on offroad terrain.
If the Park Distance Control’s manoeuvre braking function has intervened, the function is inactive for
five metres in the same direction of travel or is operational again after a change in the direction of travel.
After emergency braking of the park assist steering, the parking manoeuvre is
terminated.
After the Rear Traffic Alert has performed emergency braking, another automatic braking intervention may
only take place after 10 seconds.
The automatic braking intervention is deactivated if the doors, sliding doors, wing doors or boot lid are
open.
Introduction
The Park Distance Control assists the driver when manoeuvring and parking.
Park Distance Control detects the distance from an obstacle by means of sensors in the front and rear areas of the
vehicle. If there is an obstacle in the detection range of the sensors, the system indicates this on the Infotainment
system screen and by means of signal tones.
Things to note for trailer towing
The rear sensors for Park Distance Control are not switched on if the factory-fitted towing bracket is electrically
connected to a trailer.
WARNING
The intelligent technology used in the parking systems cannot overcome the laws of physics, and functions only
within the system limits. If this is not observed, this can result in accidents, serious injuries and also damage to the
vehicle.
The parking system is not a substitute for the full concentration of the driver.
NOTICE
The collision area has been reached at the latest when the penultimate segment is displayed. Do not drive on!
NOTICE
The vehicle must be moved a few metres forwards or backwards in order to scan and display the side areas in full. An
obstacle entering these areas from the outside will not be displayed.

Introduction
Park Assist shows parking spaces that are suitable for parking and assists the driver when driving into and out of
parking spaces.
Park Assist is an extension of Park Distance Control.
Park Assist steers the vehicle automatically. The driver must control the accelerator, gear changes and brake
(→ Parking systems).
The following functions are supported:
Displaying a suitable parking space.
Selecting a parking mode
Driving into suitable parallel and bay parking spaces,
Driving out of a parallel parking space.
Please also observe the text messages in the instrument cluster display and the Infotainment system.
WARNING
The intelligent technology used in the parking systems cannot overcome the laws of physics, and functions only
within the system limits. If this is not observed, this can result in accidents, serious injuries and also damage to the
vehicle.
The parking system is not a substitute for the full concentration of the driver.
●Always keep your eye on the parking direction and the area around the vehicle because small children, animals
and objects are not always detected.
WARNING
Fast rotational steering wheel movements can cause serious injury.
During the manoeuvring operation, do not reach for the steering wheel until prompted to do so by the system.
Exception: If a dangerous situation occurs, intervene and take over the steering.
NOTICE
Park Assist uses parked vehicles, the kerb and other objects as guidance. Please ensure that the wheels and tyres are
not damaged when parking the vehicle. If necessary, stop the parking procedure in good time to prevent damage to
the vehicle.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles recommends that you practise using the parking assist system in a traffic-
calmed area or car park. This will allow you to familiarise yourself with the system and its functions in a safer
environment.
Any equipment that has been retrofitted to the vehicle, e.g. bicycle carriers, can prevent Park Assist from
functioning properly and may cause damage.
Park Assist cannot be activated if the vehicle detects an electrically connected trailer (→ Trailer
towing).
When carrying out parking manoeuvres, the vehicle may be braked if the driver accelerates too
strongly.
The parking function and the acoustic warnings will be deactivated if other functions are operated on the
Infotainment system during a parking operation.
Park Assist switches itself off if the driver door, sliding door and/or the boot lid or wing door are
open.
258
Prerequisites
Park Assist has system-related limitations. For example, if you are on a tight bend, Park Assist cannot help you to park
the vehicle or drive out of parking spaces.
The following conditions must be met to drive into and out of a parking space:
The traction control system(TCS) must be switched on .
Distance: maintain a distance of 0.5–2.0 metres when driving past the parking space.
The parking space meets the dimensions required by Park Assist.
Speed when driving past the parking space(parallel parking): maximum 40 km/h(25 mph).
Speed when driving past the parking space(bay parking space): maximum 20 km/h(12 mph).
For parking spaces parallel to the road: Minimum length of the parking space:vehicle length + 0.8 metres.
For parking spaces perpendicular to the side of the road: Minimum width of the parking space:vehicle width +
0.95 metres.
Speed when parking: maximum 7 km/h (4 mph). Automatic braking intervention can occur.
The parking manoeuvre can be continued after the automatic brake intervention.
Automatic brake intervention occurs a maximum of once per move. A parking manoeuvre will be terminated if a
speed of approximately 7 km/h (4 mph) is exceeded.
WARNING
Do not let Park Assist tempt you to take any risks while driving – this can cause accidents. The system is not a
substitute for the full concentration of the driver.
Park Assist has system-related limitations. In some situations the automatic brake intervention can only work in a
limited way or not at all.
You should always be prepared to brake the vehicle yourself.
Automatic braking intervention is ended after approximately 1.5 seconds. Depress the brake pedal of the vehicle
yourself following the automatic braking intervention.

Troubleshooting
The system behaves differently than expected
This could have various causes:
The sensors are dirty(→ Vehicle care, exterior). The sensor visibility may be impaired by dirt and snow or also
residue from cleaning agents or coatings.
The system requirements must be met (→ Park Assist).
The sensors are covered by water.
The vehicle is damaged in the area of the sensors, e.g. caused by parking collisions.
The detection ranges of the sensors are blocked by add-on parts, e.g. bicycle carriers.
Changes have been made to the paintwork in the area of the sensors or structural modifications have been made,
e.g. on the vehicle front end or the running gear.
The ultrasound signal is subject to interference from external noise sources, e.g. rough tarmac surface or
cobblestones.
264
No sensor visibility, fault message, system switches itself off
Park Assist is switched off permanently if one of the sensors has failed.
Clean the sensors or remove stickers or accessories from the sensors and cameras (→ Vehicle care, exterior).
Check whether any damage is visible.
Possible solution
Switch off the system temporarily.
Check whether any of the causes described apply.
You can switch the system back on again once you have rectified the cause of the problem.
If the system still fails to respond as expected, have the system checked by a qualified workshop or a Volkswagen
Commercial Vehicles dealership.
Automatic cancellation of driving in/out of a parking space
Park Assist automatically cancels a parking procedure if one of the following criteria is met:
The
function button is pressed.
A speed of around 7 km/h (4 mph) is exceeded for a second time during the same parking procedure after a speed
reduction.
The driver intervenes using the steering wheel.
The parking procedure was not completed within approximately six minutes of activating the automatic steering
intervention.
There is a system fault(system is temporarily unavailable).
TCS is switched off.
TCS or ESC actively intervene.
Automatic braking intervention to minimise damage
In some countries, Park Assist can assist the driver with an automatic braking intervention in certain situations
(→ Park Assist).
Depending on the vehicle equipment and certain conditions, e.g. weather, load or inclination of the vehicle, Park
Assist can automatically brake the vehicle before an obstacle. Following this intervention, the driver must depress the
brake pedal.
The parking manoeuvre is ended if an automatic braking intervention occurs.
Introduction
Trailer Assist helps the driver when reversing or manoeuvring the vehicle when towing a trailer.
The trailer manoeuvring system steers a trailer and is operated by pushing and pulling the switch for setting the
exterior mirror. The driver must control the accelerator, gear changes and brake!
System limits
Please note the following to ensure the system works correctly:
The camera is clean and free from snow and ice.
The camera is free from stickers and other objects.
The drawbar is not covered.
265
The load compartment lid is closed.
NOTICE
Risk of vehicle damage. Trailer Assist is not oriented to the vehicle environment and does not detect any obstacles
in the surrounding area.
Check whether there is sufficient space to manoeuvre the trailer.
Observe the movement of the trailer and cancel the manoeuvre if necessary in order to avoid damage. On rare
occasions the trailer may behave differently, even when Trailer Assist is operated correctly.
Do not rely solely on the instrument cluster displays.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles recommends that drivers practise using the trailer manoeuvring system in a
traffic-calmed area or car park to familiarise themselves with the system and its functions.
If there is no driver interaction within approximately three minutes, the manoeuvre is terminated and Trailer
Assist is ended.
266
Prerequisites
Determining the drawbar length
The drawbar length must be re-determined every time the trailer is changed.
Perform turning and cornering manoeuvres with the trailer. The more varied the turning and cornering
manoeuvres, the more manoeuvring options the trailer manoeuvring system will detect for the trailer.
There is a maximum of four limit positions for the angle display: approx. 30°, 45°, 60° and 75°.
Fulfilling requirements
The following prerequisites must be met for the trailer manoeuvring system to function:
A trailer with a maximum of two rigid axles is attached and electrically connected.
Driver door and load compartment lid are closed.
Engine running.
Vehicle is stationary.
ESC is switched on.
Exterior mirrors are not folded in.
For technical reasons, the trailer manoeuvring system cannot always detect trailers with an LED tail light
cluster correctly.

cluster. A signal tone may also sound.
Automatic braking intervention
The driver is responsible for braking in time (→ Trailer manoeuvring system).
An automatic braking intervention may occur and the function may be cancelled in the following situations:
Speed of approximately 6–8 km/h (3–5 mph) is exceeded.
Steering interventions by driver.
Diver door is open.
The
function button is activated in the Infotainment system.
WARNING
Risk of injury. Fast rotational steering wheel movements can cause serious injury.
When manoeuvring, do not reach for the steering wheel until prompted to do so by the system.
Exception: If a dangerous situation occurs, intervene and take over the steering.
WARNING
Risk of injury. Do not let the automatic braking intervention tempt you to take any risks while driving, as this can
cause accidents. The system is not a substitute for the full concentration of the driver.
Trailer Assist has system-related limitations. In some situations the automatic brake intervention can only work in
a limited way or not at all.
If a dangerous situation occurs, intervene and take over the steering.
The automatic braking intervention is ended after approximately 1.5 seconds at vehicle standstill.
Depress the brake pedal of the vehicle yourself following the automatic braking intervention.
The exterior mirrors cannot be adjusted while Trailer Assist is
active.
