Pulling away on steep inclines or with increased vehicle loads
You can prevent the electronic parking brake from switching off automatically by pulling the → Fig. 1 button
upwards and holding it while moving off.
If higher engine power is required to move off, the electronic parking brake will be deactivated only when you release
the
button.
This makes pulling away with a heavy trailer load easier.
Automatic switch-on of the electronic parking brake if the driver does not leave the
vehicle correctly

—Automatic gearbox or dual clutch gearbox:a position is engaged. The electronic parking brake willnot be switched
on automatically when the selector lever is in position .
Automatic switch-on of the electronic parking brake in vehicles with manual gearbox
If the function is activated in the vehicle settings of the Infotainment system (→ Vehicle settings menu), the
electronic parking brake is switched on automatically when the ignition is switched off.

Emergency braking function
The emergency braking function should be used only in those situations where the vehicle cannot be stopped using
the foot brake→

—Pull and hold the button → Fig. 1. The vehicle brakes strongly. A signal tone sounds at the same time.
WARNING
The incorrect use of the electronic parking brake can cause accidents and serious injuries.
● Never use the electronic parking brake to brake the vehicle, except in emergencies. The braking distance is
considerably longer as only the rear wheels are braked in some cases. Always use the foot brake.
● Never press the accelerator if a position or gear has been selected and the engine is running. The vehicle could
move, even if the electronic parking brake is applied.
WARNING
The vehicle may roll away if you leave the vehicle incorrectly. This can lead to accidents, severe injuries and material
damage.
● Always park the vehicle in the specified order (→ Parking).
● Before leaving the vehicle, make sure that the electronic parking brake is switched on and that the indicator
lamp lights up red on the instrument cluster when the ignition is switched off.
Manual gearbox: If the electronic parking brake is to be switched off to drive through a car
wash:
—Depress the brake pedal and press the → Fig. 1
button.
—Press and hold the button until the ignition has been switched
off.
