gr. 72 ; Removing and installing seat adjustment control

unit .

– Unclip control unit bracket.

– Unclip beading strips -2- from fasteners -5-.

– Release seat pan cover -1- from tabs -4-.

– Detach carrier -3- along with seat depth adjustment padding

from seat pan cover -1-.

– Detach beading strips -1- and -2- using hook - 3438- .

– Pull tabs off seat frame.

– Disconnect electrical connector.

– Detach cover and padding from seat pan.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as

an example.

Removing

– Remove seat pan cover and padding ⇒ Rep. gr. 74 ; Re‐

moving and installing seat pan cover and padding .

– Pull seat pan cover -1- off seat pan padding -2- far enough

for upholstery clips -3- to become accessible.

– Separate upholstery clips -3- using commercially available

pliers -4-.

– Remove seat pan cover -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Make sure that seat pan cover is fitted without creases.

using upholstery clip pliers - V.A.G 1634B- .

Removing

– Remove front backrest ⇒ Rep. gr. 72 ; Removing and in‐

stalling front backrest .

– Remove head restraint ⇒ Rep. gr. 72 ; Removing and in‐

stalling head restraint .

– Remove front centre armrest ⇒ Rep. gr. 68 ; Removing and

installing front centre armrest .

– Unclip caps of head restraint lock using commercially availa‐

ble plastic wedge.

Vehicles with folding table

– Remove folding table ⇒ Rep. gr. 72 ; Removing and instal‐

ling folding table .

All vehicles (continued)

– Open beading strips -4- in direction of -arrow- using hook -

3438- .

– Open zip fastener.

– Roll backrest cover -1- upwards at front and at rear.

CAUTION

It is possible to trigger pyrotechnic components unintentional‐

ly.

Risk of injury

– Discharge static electricity by briefly touching door striker

plate.

NOTICE

Risk of irreparable damage due to electrostatic discharge.

– Do not touch connector contacts with your hands.

– Touch the lifting platform or other earthed object to dis‐

charge static electricity.

– Cut through upholstery clips using commercially available

pliers.

– Use release tool - T10236- to release clip -2- on both sides.

– Cut through additional upholstery clips using commercially

available pliers.

– Remove backrest cover -1- with padding from backrest

frame -3-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Make sure that backrest cover is fitted without creases.

It is possible to trigger pyrotechnic components unintentional‐

ly.

Risk of injury

– Discharge static electricity by briefly touching door striker

plate.

NOTICE

Risk of irreparable damage due to electrostatic discharge.

– Do not touch connector contacts with your hands.

– Touch the lifting platform or other earthed object to dis‐

charge static electricity.

– Secure new upholstery clips in sequence -1- through -15-

using upholstery clip pliers - V.A.G 1634B- .

Note

Engage opposite side of zip fastener first.

– Close zip fastener with zip closer ⇒ Electronic parts cata‐

logue (ETKA) .

The front left seat heating - ZX11- and front right headlight -

ZX13- will henceforth be referred to as “heater element”.

Removing

– Separate ⇒ Rep. gr. 74 ; seat pan cover from seat pan

padding .

Important

•

Commercially available hot air blower should be set to

220°C.

•

Distance to be maintained between hot air blower and pad‐

ding must be approx. 30 cm.

– Apply heat to defective heater element in area of bonded

joint.

– Grasp heater element in area of adhesive strips, and careful‐

ly detach it while continuously applying hot air.

– When so, slowly pull off heater element at an angle of ap‐

prox. 45°.

Note

Adhesive remains of the detective heater element may remain

on the padding.

– Make sure that no larger fragments of the padding are torn

out.

Note

Small torn out fragments are permissible.

Installing

Note

There are grooved recesses in the padding in which the wires

run. The seat pan cover is attached to the wires by means of

upholstery clips.

– Make sure that heater element comes fully into contact with

padding in grooved recesses.

If bonding requires correction:

– Use new heater element.

– Bond on heater element centrally and without creases in

sequence -1- to -6-.

Removing and installing backrest heat‐

ing element [Z116]/[Z117]

Removal and installation are described for one heater element

as an example.

Heated backrest for front left seat - Z116- and heated backrest

for front right seat - Z117- will henceforth be referred to as

“heater element”.

Removing

– ⇒ Rep. gr. 74 ; Separate backrest cover from backrest

padding .

Important

•

Commercially available hot air blower, setting: 220°C
