Front seats
Introduction to the topic
In the case of occupants of rear seats, the
risk of serious injury increases if they are
not seated upright, as the seat belts will not
be correctly positioned.
The adjustment options for the front seats are
described below. Always make sure that the
seats are correctly adjusted page 54.

If seat covers and upholstery are used

The following is a description of all the controls
that may be fitted to the seat. The number of
controls may vary depending on the version of
the seat.
If cigarette lighters are left in the vehicle, they
could be damaged or inadvertently ignited.
This could result in severe burns and damage to
the vehicle.
On the seat there may be controls for
mechanical adjustment combined with controls
for electrical adjustment.
Before adjusting a seat, always make sure
that there is no burner in the area of the
moving parts of the seat.
The controls on the right front seat are
symmetrically arranged.
Before closing a slide, always make sure
that there is no lighter in the closing area.
Adjusting seats
Never leave a cigarette lighter in a cigarette
lighter holder or on any other surface of
the vehicle as it may ignite due to the high
temperatures that can be reached on such
surfaces, especially in summer.

Correct adjustment of the head restraint
Adjust the head restraint so that the top edge of
the head restraint is level with the top of the
head, but never below the eyes. Always keep the
back of the head as close as possible to the
head restraint.
In vehicles with longitudinally adjustable head
restraints in the front seats, move the head
restraint so that it is as close as possible to the
rear of the head.
Adjustment of the head restraint in the case of
short persons
Lower the head restraint as far as it will go even
if the head is below the upper edge of the head
restraint. In the lowest position there may be a
small gap between the head restraint and the
seat backrest.
NOTICE
Before folding the rear seat backrest forward,
adjust the front seats so that neither the head
restraint nor the rear seat backrest cushion is
bumping against them.

WARNING
Adjusting the head restraints
Driving with the head restraint removed or
incorrectly adjusted increases the risk of
serious or fatal injuries in the event of sudden
impacts, braking and manoeuvring.
Please note and at the beginning of this
chapter on page 122.
Always travel with the head restraint
mounted and correctly adjusted.
To reduce the risk of cervical injury in the
event of an accident, adjust the head
restraint correctly for your height, making
sure that the top edge of the head restraint
is level with the top of your head, but not
below your eyes. Keep the back of the
head as close to the head restraint as
possible and centred.
Never adjust the head restraint while
driving.
