Raise the backrest of the rear seat  
When folded down, the backrests can  
support a maximum load of 50 kg each.  
Unlock the backrest manually with the lever  
on the seat Fig. 96 or electrically with the  
corresponding button in the luggage  
compartment Fig. 97.  
NOTICE  
If the seat is moved lengthways, objects  
transported in the luggage compartment could  
cause damage.  
Lift the backrest and press it firmly into the  
lock until it engages . The unlocking  
lever on the seat must be in the basic  
position.  
If the state of charge of the 12-volt battery is  
too low, it is pthat the battery will  
not be charged

Once the backrest has been raised, the seat  
must be readjusted page 54.

Correct adjustment of the head restraint  
Adjust the head restraint so that the top edge of  
the head restraint is level with the top of the  
head, but never below the eyes. Always keep the  
back of the head as close as possible to the  
head restraint.  
In vehicles with longitudinally adjustable head  
restraints in the front seats, move the head  
restraint so that it is as close as possible to the  
rear of the head.  
Adjustment of the head restraint in the case of  
short persons  
Lower the head restraint as far as it will go even  
if the head is below the upper edge of the head  
restraint. In the lowest position there may be a  
small gap between the head restraint and the  
seat backrest.  
NOTICE  
Before folding the rear seat backrest forward,  
adjust the front seats so that neither the head  
restraint nor the rear seat backrest cushion is  
bumping against them.

Raise the head restraint as far as it will go.

Adjusting the head restraints  
Driving with the head restraint removed or  
incorrectly adjusted increases the risk of  
serious or fatal injuries in the event of sudden  
impacts, braking and manoeuvring.  
Please note and at the beginning of this  
chapter on page 122.  
Always travel with the head restraint  
mounted and correctly adjusted.  
To reduce the risk of cervical injury in the  
event of an accident, adjust the head  
restraint correctly for your height, making  
sure that the top edge of the head restraint  
is level with the top of your head, but not  
below your eyes. Keep the back of the  
head as close to the head restraint as  
possible and centred.  
Never adjust the head restraint while  
driving.
