Mobility -> Jump-starting for Your Audi Rs Q8 SUV First Generation (2020-2026)

Mobility
Do not drive faster than 80 km/h when the
collapsible spare wheel is fitted – higher
speeds can cause an accident.
WARNING
When it is discharged the vehicle battery
can freeze at temperatures around 0 °C. A
frozen vehicle battery must first be thawed
out before connecting the jump leads – risk
of explosion and chemical burns! After
jump-starting the vehicle, drive to a quali-
fied workshop without delay and have the
vehicle battery checked.
Avoid heavy acceleration, hard braking and
fast cornering when the collapsible spare
wheel is fitted – risk of accident!
Never use more than one collapsible spare
wheel on the vehicle at the same time – risk
of accident!
No other type of tyre (normal summer or
winter tyres) may be fitted on the rim of the
collapsible spare wheel.
Note the safety warnings referring to work-
ing in the engine compartment ðpage 320.
Incorrect handling of the jump leads may re-
sult in the vehicle battery exploding (risk of
serious injury).
CAUTION
Turn the compressor off after 10 minutes at
the latest (risk of overheating). Allow the
compressor to cool down for a few minutes
before using it again.
CAUTION
If the jump leads are not connected correct-
ly this can result in serious damage to the
vehicle's electrical system.
Jump-starting
Plug-in hybrid drive: Do not use your vehicle
to jump-start another vehicle. This would
cause serious damage to your vehicle's elec-
trical system.
Preparations
You should not attempt the following steps un-
less you are in possession of the necessary equip-
ment and have the skills required.
Note
There must be no contact between the two
vehicles as otherwise current could flow as
soon as the positive terminals are connec-
ted. This would discharge the boosting bat-
tery.
If the engine fails to start because of a dis-
charged battery, you can use another vehicle to
start the engine. Suitable jump leads are re-
quired.
Both vehicle batteries must be rated at 12 volts.
The capacity (Ah) of the booster battery should
not be significantly lower than that of the dis-
charged battery.
The discharged vehicle battery must be
properly connected to the vehicle's electri-
cal system.
Switch off any electrical equipment you do
not need.
Jump leads
The jump leads must be heavy enough to carry
the starter current. Refer to the details given by
the manufacturer.
Only use jump leads with insulated battery
clamps.
Positive cable – usually red.
Negative cable – usually black.

Jump-starting the vehicle
(black) to the jump-start connection 4 on
your vehicle.
The two jump leads must be connected in the
correct sequence.
Starting the engine
Start the engine of the vehicle providing the
electricity and let it run at idling speed.
Now start the engine of your vehicle with the
discharged battery.
If the engine fails to start: do not operate the
starter for longer than 10 seconds. Wait for
about 30 seconds and try again.
Switch on the rear window heating on your ve-
hicle (this will dissipate any voltage peaks
which may occur when you disconnect the jump
leads). The headlights must be switched off.

or battery charger
With the engines running, disconnect the leads
in the opposite sequence to how they were con-
nected.
Refit the red cap onto the positive terminal.
WARNING
Jump leads must never be connected direct-
ly to the battery on your vehicle. Always use
the terminals in the engine compartment.
The non-insulated parts of the battery
clamps must not be allowed to touch. The
jump lead attached to the positive battery
terminal must not touch metal parts of the
vehicle: this can cause short circuits.
The sealing caps on the battery cells must
not be opened.
Fig. 223 Connecting jump leads
The terminals for the jump leads are located in
the engine compartment.
Please observe the general information on the
vehicle battery ðpage 330.
Connecting the positive terminals with the
positive lead (red)
Keep sparks, flames and lit cigarettes away
from vehicle batteries: the gases given off
can cause an explosion.
Open the red cap on the positive terminal
ðFig. 222.
Position the jump leads in such a way that
they cannot come into contact with any
moving parts in the engine compartment of
the other vehicle.
1. Connect one end of the positive lead (red) to
the jump-start connection 1 ðFig. 223 on
your vehicle.
2. Connect the other end of the positive lead
(red) to the positive terminal 2 on the pow-
er source.
CAUTION
Please note that the above method of con-
necting the leads is intended for jump-start-
ing your vehicle.
Connecting the negative terminals with the
negative lead (black)
3. Connect one end of the negative lead (black)
to the negative terminal 3 on the power
source.
