WARNING
How it works
Please note the safety precautions and system
limitations of the supporting systems, sen-
sors and cameras ðpage 171 to ðpage 174.
The manoeuvre assist helps the driver when park-
ing and manoeuvring by using sensors to monitor
the area at the front, rear and side of the vehicle.
In the event of an impending collision with an-
other object, the system intervenes, within cer-
tain system limits, and attempts to prevent a col-
lision by braking the vehicle. The system can de-
tect objects higher than approx. 20 cm.
Note
The system is only partially available if tow-
ing mode is detected. The white frame is
not displayed in the areas which are inac-
tive. If the towing bracket is not factory-fit-
ted the functions may not be deactivated
automatically.
Display overview
The symbols and indicators 1 4 show the sta-
tus and availability of the manoeuvre assist.
If the indicator lamp flashes while the
vehicle is in motion, the ESC is intervening
and the manoeuvre assist is cancelled.

Temporary deactivation
You can deactivate the manoeuvre assist tempo-

WARNING
According to health organisations, mobile
phones may interfere with the function of
pacemakers. A minimum distance of 20 cm
between the mobile phone aerial and the
pacemaker should therefore be maintained.
Setting up
Connecting a mobile phone via Bluetooth
Applies to: vehicles with telephone
Important: The vehicle must be stationary, and
the ignition must be switched on. The Bluetooth
settings must be open on your mobile phone dur-
ing the connection procedure. The mobile phone
you would like to connect must not be connected
actively to any other Bluetooth device. The MMI
must not be connected to more than one mobile
phone.
Do not carry a mobile phone in your breast
pocket directly over the pacemaker when
the phone is switched on.
If you suspect interference, switch the mo-
bile phone off immediately.
The speech dialogue system* ðpage 34
must not be used in cases of emergency,
since the voice changes in stressful situa-
tions. This could result in a failed or delayed
telephone connection. Always dial emergen-
cy numbers manually!
Switch on the Bluetooth function and discover-
ability on both the MMI system ðpage 307 and
the mobile phone.
Switch off your mobile phones in all areas
where there may be a risk of explosion. Re-
member that these areas may not always be
adequately marked. Such places are filling
stations, fuel and chemical storage facilities
or transport vehicles and other places where
fumes, chemicals (e.g. from leaking propane
or fuel vapours in vehicles or buildings) or
large quantities of dust particles (e.g. from
flour, wood or metal) could accumulate in
the air. This warning also applies to all other
places where you would normally switch off
the drive system.
Applies to MMI: On the home screen, select
TELEPHONE.
Follow the instructions given by the system.
The available Bluetooth devices will be shown
after a few seconds.
Press on the desired mobile phone in the list of
Bluetooth devices shown.
A PIN for a secure Bluetooth connection will be
created.
Confirm the PIN on your mobile phone.
Follow the instructions given by the system.
Please note any system queries on the MMI and
your mobile phone.
Driving on the road requires the full atten-
tion of the driver. Please always note the in-
formation in the chapter ðpage 26, Notes
on traffic safety.
After connecting successfully
The contacts on the mobile phone are automati-
cally loaded into the MMI. This may take several

minutes, depending on how many contacts are
stored on the mobile phone.
Using two telephones
Applies to: vehicles with telephone
Depending on the mobile phone and the type of
connection, you can use the following functions:
You can connect two mobile phones simultane-
ously via Bluetooth HFP to the MMI system (e.g.
your business and personal mobiles). You can
then be reached inside the vehicle on both mo-
bile phones.
Using the handsfree system
Important: Your mobile phone must be connec-
ted to the MMI via the Bluetooth Hands Free Pro-
file (HFP).
Applies to mobile phones with Bluetooth Mes-
sage Access Profile: You can send and receive
messages with both mobile phones ðpage 251.
The handsfree system is available for use. Your
phone calls will be made via the aerial of your
mobile phone.
Connecting a second mobile phone
Important: A mobile phone must be connected to
the MMI. The vehicle must be stationary, and the
ignition must be switched on. The Bluetooth set-
tings must be open on your mobile phone during
the connection procedure. The mobile phone you
would like to connect must not be connected ac-
tively to any other Bluetooth device.
Sending and receiving text messages
Refer to ðpage 251.
Note
Please note any system queries on your mo-
bile phone or the MMI, e.g. whether the
phone should connect automatically in the
future. On some mobile phones, you may
need to confirm the download of your con-
tacts and allow access to your messages
separately.
Switch on the Bluetooth function and discover-
ability on both the MMI system ðpage 307 and
the mobile phone.
Applies to MMI: On the home screen, select
TELEPHONE > , or
You can also search for the MMI system via

Applies to MMI: On the home screen, select:
DEVICES > Telephone 1 / Telephone 2 > New
connection.
Follow the instructions given by the system.
Bluetooth devices only have to be paired
once. Any devices that have already been
paired with the MMI system are connected
automatically when the Bluetooth function
is switched on, the devices are within range
of the car and the ignition is on. The mobile
phone last connected is given priority.
You can adjust further settings for connec-
ted mobile phones in the Connected devices
menu ðpage 307.
The available Bluetooth devices will be shown
after a few seconds.

your mobile phone.
The Bluetooth connection between the sys-
tem and the mobile phone is automatically
terminated when you leave the car. Depend-
ing on the mobile phone, telephone calls
may be transferred automatically from the
MMI to your mobile phone so that you can
continue talking.
