Introduction

You can use a wide range of telephone functions  
in your vehicle conveniently via the MMI.  
Note  
The following options may be available depend-  
ing on your country and the vehicle’s equipment:  
The maximum range of the Bluetooth con-  
nection is limited to the interior of the vehi-  
cle.  
Connecting a mobile phone via Bluetooth

You can find a selection of supported Blue-  
tooth devices in the database for tested mo-

WARNING  
According to health organisations, mobile  
phones may interfere with the function of  
pacemakers. A minimum distance of 20 cm  
between the mobile phone aerial and the  
pacemaker should therefore be maintained.  
Setting up  
Connecting a mobile phone via Bluetooth  
Applies to: vehicles with telephone  
Important: The vehicle must be stationary, and  
the ignition must be switched on. The Bluetooth  
settings must be open on your mobile phone dur-  
ing the connection procedure. The mobile phone  
you would like to connect must not be connected  
actively to any other Bluetooth device. The MMI  
must not be connected to more than one mobile  
phone.  
Do not carry a mobile phone in your breast  
pocket directly over the pacemaker when  
the phone is switched on.  
If you suspect interference, switch the mo-  
bile phone off immediately.  
The speech dialogue system* ðpage 34  
must not be used in cases of emergency,  
since the voice changes in stressful situa-  
tions. This could result in a failed or delayed  
telephone connection. Always dial emergen-  
cy numbers manually!  
Switch on the Bluetooth function and discover-  
ability on both the MMI system ðpage 307 and  
the mobile phone.  
Switch off your mobile phones in all areas  
where there may be a risk of explosion. Re-  
member that these areas may not always be  
adequately marked. Such places are filling  
stations, fuel and chemical storage facilities  
or transport vehicles and other places where  
fumes, chemicals (e.g. from leaking propane  
or fuel vapours in vehicles or buildings) or  
large quantities of dust particles (e.g. from  
flour, wood or metal) could accumulate in  
the air. This warning also applies to all other  
places where you would normally switch off  
the drive system.  
Applies to MMI: On the home screen, select  
TELEPHONE.  
Follow the instructions given by the system.  
The available Bluetooth devices will be shown  
after a few seconds.  
Press on the desired mobile phone in the list of  
Bluetooth devices shown.  
A PIN for a secure Bluetooth connection will be  
created.  
Confirm the PIN on your mobile phone.  
Follow the instructions given by the system.  
Please note any system queries on the MMI and  
your mobile phone.  
Driving on the road requires the full atten-  
tion of the driver. Please always note the in-  
formation in the chapter ðpage 26, Notes  
on traffic safety.  
After connecting successfully  
The contacts on the mobile phone are automati-  
cally loaded into the MMI. This may take several

minutes, depending on how many contacts are  
stored on the mobile phone.  
Using two telephones  
Applies to: vehicles with telephone  
Depending on the mobile phone and the type of  
connection, you can use the following functions:  
You can connect two mobile phones simultane-  
ously via Bluetooth HFP to the MMI system (e.g.  
your business and personal mobiles). You can  
then be reached inside the vehicle on both mo-  
bile phones.  
Using the handsfree system  
Important: Your mobile phone must be connec-  
ted to the MMI via the Bluetooth Hands Free Pro-  
file (HFP).  
Applies to mobile phones with Bluetooth Mes-  
sage Access Profile: You can send and receive  
messages with both mobile phones ðpage 251.  
The handsfree system is available for use. Your  
phone calls will be made via the aerial of your  
mobile phone.  
Connecting a second mobile phone  
Important: A mobile phone must be connected to  
the MMI. The vehicle must be stationary, and the  
ignition must be switched on. The Bluetooth set-  
tings must be open on your mobile phone during  
the connection procedure. The mobile phone you  
would like to connect must not be connected ac-  
tively to any other Bluetooth device.  
Sending and receiving text messages  
Refer to ðpage 251.  
Note  
Please note any system queries on your mo-  
bile phone or the MMI, e.g. whether the  
phone should connect automatically in the  
future. On some mobile phones, you may  
need to confirm the download of your con-  
tacts and allow access to your messages  
separately.  
Switch on the Bluetooth function and discover-  
ability on both the MMI system ðpage 307 and  
the mobile phone.  
Applies to MMI: On the home screen, select  
TELEPHONE > , or  
You can also search for the MMI system via  
the Bluetooth device search function on  
your mobile phone. The visibility of the MMI  
must be set to Visible ðpage 307.  
Applies to MMI: On the home screen, select:  
DEVICES > Telephone 1 / Telephone 2 > New  
connection.  
Follow the instructions given by the system.  
Bluetooth devices only have to be paired  
once. Any devices that have already been  
paired with the MMI system are connected  
automatically when the Bluetooth function  
is switched on, the devices are within range  
of the car and the ignition is on. The mobile  
phone last connected is given priority.  
You can adjust further settings for connec-  
ted mobile phones in the Connected devices  
menu ðpage 307.  
The available Bluetooth devices will be shown  
after a few seconds.  
Press on the desired mobile phone in the list of  
Bluetooth devices shown.  
A PIN for a secure Bluetooth connection will be  
created.  
Confirm the PIN on your mobile phone.  
Follow the instructions given by the system.  
Please note any system queries on the MMI and

The Bluetooth connection between the sys-  
tem and the mobile phone is automatically  
terminated when you leave the car. Depend-  
ing on the mobile phone, telephone calls  
may be transferred automatically from the  
MMI to your mobile phone so that you can  
continue talking.  
After connecting successfully

Switching between two mobile phones  
Important: Telephone 1 and telephone 2 must be  
connected to the MMI.
