Indicator/warning lights  
General information  
The indicator and warning lights in the instru‐  
ment cluster can light up in a variety of combi‐  
nations and colors.  
Several of the lights are checked for proper  
functioning and light up temporarily when the  
engine is started or the ignition is switched on.  
Red lights  
Current engine speed is displayed in the  
tachometer.  
Safety belt reminder  
Arrow 1: successive yellow illuminated  
fields indicate an increase in the speed.  
Safety belt on the driver's side is not  
buckled. For some country-specific  
models: passenger belt is not worn or  
objects are detected on the front passenger  
seat.  
Arrow 2: successive orange illuminated  
fields indicate the upcoming shift moment.  
Arrow 3: fields are illuminated in red. Do  
not wait any further to shift.  
Indicator lamp flashes or is illuminated: safety  
belt on the driver or passenger side is not  
buckled. The safety belt reminder can also be  
activated if objects are placed on the front pas‐  
senger seat.  
When the maximum possible speed is  
reached, the entire display flashes. When the  
maximum speed is exceeded, the supply of  
fuel is interrupted in order to protect the en‐  
gine.  
Make sure that the safety belts are positioned  
correctly.  
Check Control  
Airbag system  
Concept  
Airbag system and belt tensioner are  
not working.  
The Check Control system monitors functions  
in the vehicle and notifies you of malfunctions  
in the monitored systems.  
Have the vehicle checked immediately  
by a dealer’s service center or another quali‐  
fied service center or repair shop.  
General information  
A Check Control message is displayed as a  
combination of indicator or warning lights and  
SMS text messages in the instrument cluster  
and in the Head-up Display.  
Parking brake  
The parking brake is set.  
Release the parking brake, refer to  
page 75.  
In addition, an acoustic signal may sound and  
an SMS text message may appear on the Con‐  
trol Display.

Braking system impaired. Continue to  
drive moderately.  
Vehicle detection, Active Cruise Control  
Indicator light illuminates: a vehicle has  
been detected ahead of you.  
Have the vehicle checked immediately  
by a dealer’s service center or another quali‐  
fied service center or repair shop.  
Indicator light flashes: the conditions  
are not adequate for the system to work.  
The system was deactivated but applies the  
brakes until you actively resume control by  
pressing on the brake pedal or accelerator  
pedal.  
Approach control warning  
Indicator light illuminates: advance  
warning is issued, for example when  
there is the impending danger of a col‐  
lision or the distance to the vehicle ahead is  
too small.  
Yellow lights  
Increase distance.  
Anti-lock Braking System ABS  
Indicator light flashes: acute warning of the im‐  
minent danger of a collision when the vehicle  
approaches another vehicle at a relatively high  
differential speed.  
Braking force boost may not be work‐  
ing. Avoid abrupt braking. Take the lon‐  
ger braking distance into account.  
Have the system immediately checked  
by a dealer’s service center or another  
qualified service center or repair shop.  
Intervention by braking or make an evasive ma‐  
neuver.  
Person warning  
DSC Dynamic Stability Control  
Symbol in the instrument cluster.  
The indicator light flashes: DSC con‐  
trols the drive and braking forces. The  
vehicle is stabilized. Reduce speed and  
modify your driving style to the driving circum‐  
stances.  
If a collision with a person detected in  
this way is imminent, the symbol lights  
up and a signal sounds.  
Symbol in the instrument display.  
The indicator light lights up: DSC has malfunc‐  
tioned.

Flat Tire Monitor FTM  
Emissions  
The Flat Tire Monitor signals a loss of  
tire inflation pressure in a tire.  
The warning light lights up:  
Emissions are deteriorating. Have  
the vehicle checked as soon as  
possible.  
Reduce your speed and stop cau‐  
tiously. Avoid sudden braking and steering ma‐  
neuvers.  
The warning light flashes under certain cir‐  
cumstances:  
Flat Tire Monitor, refer to page 121.  
This indicates that there is excessive mis‐  
firing in the engine.  
Tire Pressure Monitor TPM  
Reduce the vehicle speed and have the  
system checked immediately; otherwise,  
serious engine misfiring within a brief pe‐  
riod can seriously damage emission con‐  
trol components, in particular the catalytic  
converter.  
The indicator light illuminates.  
The Tire Pressure Monitor reports a  
low tire inflation pressure or a flat tire.  
Follow the information in the Check Control  
message.  
The indicator light flashes and then illuminates  
continuously.

No flat tire or loss of tire inflation pressure can  
be detected.  
Lane departure warning  
Interference caused by systems or devices  
with the same radio frequency: after leav‐  
ing the area of the interference, the system  
automatically becomes active again.  
System is switched on and under cer‐  
tain circumstances warns if a detected  
lane is left without flashing beforehand.

TPM was unable to complete the reset.  
Reset the system again.  
Green lights  
A wheel without TPM electronics is  
mounted: have it checked by a dealer’s  
service center or another qualified service  
center or repair shop as needed.  
Turn signal  
Turn signal switched on.  
Malfunction: have the system checked by a  
dealer’s service center or another qualified  
service center or repair shop.  
Unusually rapid flashing of the indicator  
light indicates that a turn signal bulb  
has failed.

Cruise control  
The system is switched on. It maintains  
the speed that was set using the con‐  
trol elements on the steering wheel.  
These messages can be hidden for approx.  
8 seconds. After this time, they are displayed  
again automatically.  
Automatic Hold  
Temporary display  
Automatic Hold is activated. The vehi‐  
cle is automatically held in place when  
it is stationary.  
Other Check Control messages are hidden au‐  
tomatically after approx. 20 seconds. These  
Check Control messages are stored and can  
be displayed again later.

Always avoid engine speeds in the red warning  
field. In this range, the fuel supply is reduced to  
protect the engine.  
Supplementary SMS text messages  
Additional information, such as on the cause of  
an error or the required action, can be called up  
via Check Control.  
With urgent messages the added text will be  
automatically displayed on the Control Display.  
Engine oil temperature  
Cold engine: the pointer is at  
the low temperature end.  
Drive at moderate engine  
and vehicle speeds.  
Further help  
Depending on the Check Control message,  
further help can be selected.  
Normal operating tempera‐  
ture: the pointer is in the  
middle or in the left half of  
the temperature display.

too hot, a Check Control message is displayed.

displayed again after the ignition is switched  
off.

Fuel gauge  
Check the coolant level.  
Depending on the equipment  
version, the arrow beside the  
fuel pump symbol shows which  
side of the vehicle the fuel filler  
flap is on.
