Driving

In both cases, apply the parking brake to

immobilise the vehicle, unless it is programmed

to automatic mode.

P. Park.

For parking the vehicle: the front wheels

are blocked.

R. Reverse.

N. Neutral.

For moving the vehicle with the ignition off:

There is a risk of damage to the gearbox:

if you press the accelerator and brake

pedals at the same time,

if you force the selector from position P

to another position when the battery is

flat.

If the selector is not in position P, when the

driver's door is opened or approximately

45 seconds after the ignition is switched

off, an audible signal sounds and a

message appears.

D. Automatic mode.

F Return the gear selector to position

P; the audible signal stops and the

message disappears.

The gearbox manages gear changes

according to the style of driving, the road

profile and the vehicle load.

EAT8 automatic gearbox

Eight-speed automatic gearbox with push

selector. It also offers a manual mode with

steering mounted paddle gear changes.

M. Manual mode.

The driver changes gear using the steering

mounted control paddles.

Operating fault

When the ignition is on, a message

appears in the instrument panel screen

to indicate a gearbox fault.

Push selector

In this case, the gearbox switches to back-up

mode and is locked in 3^rdgear. You may feel a

substantial jolt when changing from P to R and

from N to R. This will not cause any damage to

the gearbox.

Do not exceed 62 mph (100 km/h), local speed

restrictions permitting.

Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a

qualified workshop.

The steering mounted control paddles

cannot be used to engage neutral or to

select or come out of reverse.

A. P button.

To put the gearbox into Parking mode.

The selector returns to its initial position when

released.

For example, to change from P to R, you can

optionally push forward twice without passing

the rpoint of resistance or push once beyond

the point of resistance:

B. Unlock button.

To unlock the gearbox and come out of P

or change to R, with the foot on the brake

pedal.

This button should be pressed and held

before moving the selector.

Displays in the instrument panel

In the first case, the gearbox goes from P to

N, then from N to R.

With the ignition on, the status of the gearbox is

displayed in the instrument panel:

P: park.

R: reverse.

N: neutral.

D1...D8: automatic mode.

S: Sport programme or Driver Sport Pack.

M1...M8: manual mode.

In the second case, the gearbox goes

directly from P to R.

C. M button.

To change from automatic mode D to

permanent manual mode.

D. Gearbox state indicators (P, R, N, D).

Steering mounted controls

In mode M or D , the steering mounted control

paddles allow the driver to change gear

manually.

-: instruction not accepted in manual mode.

If the driver's door is opened with the ignition

on, a message is displayed asking you to put

the gearbox into mode P.

The state of the gearbox is displayed in the

instrument panel for a few moments after

switching off the ignition.

Operation

With the engine running, if it is necessary to

press the brake pedal and/or the Unlock button

in order to change mode, an alert message is

displayed in the instrument panel.

Only appropriate attempted changes of mode

are accepted.

F Pull the right-hand "+" paddle toward you

and release to change up a gear.

F Pull the left-hand "-" paddle toward you and

release to change down a gear.

Move the selector by pressing it forward (N

or R) or rearward (N or D) once or twice,

if necessary going beyond the point of

resistance.

With the engine running and the brakes

To select reverse:

If you exceed the time limit of five seconds,

the gearbox engages mode P; you should then

restart the procedure.

F slow down until you come to a stop,

F with your foot on the brake pedal, press the

Unlock button,

F select mode R while continuing to press the

brake pedal and the Unlock button.

released, if R, D or M is selected, the

vehicle moves off, even without pressing

the accelerator pedal.

Never leave children unsupervised in the

vehicle when the engine is running.

If you open the driver's door when mode N

is engaged, an audible signal will sound. It

will stop when you close the driver's door

again.

To select manual mode:

F while having mode D selected in advance,

F press button M; the indicator lamp in the

button comes on.

To quit manual mode:

F push forwards once to go back to D.

Never press the accelerator and brake

pedals at the same time – Risk of damage

to the gearbox!

In the event of a battery failure, you

must place the chock supplied with the

vehicle tools against one of the wheels to

immobilise the vehicle.

Special aspects of automatic

mode

The gearbox selects the gear that offers

optimum performance, taking account of the

exterior temperature, the profile of the road, the

load on the vehicle and the style of driving.

For maximum acceleration without touching the

selector, push the accelerator to the floor (kick-

down). The gearbox shifts down automatically

or holds the gear selected until the maximum

engine speed is reached.

F press button M; the indicator lamp in the

button goes off.

General information

To switch off the ignition, the vehicle must

be stationary.

To unlock the gearbox:

from mode P:

Changing to free-wheel

To put the vehicle in free-wheeling mode with

the engine switched off:

F with the vehicle stationary and the engine

running, select N,

F switch off the engine,

F within five seconds, switch the ignition on

again,

F with the foot on the brake pedal, push the

selector forward or back once to confirm N

and manually release the electric parking

brake,

F fully depress the brake pedal,

F press the Unlock button,

F select another mode while continuing to

press the brake pedal and the Unlock

button.

The steering mounted controls allow the driver

to temporarily select a gear, if the vehicle

speed and engine speed permit.

from the neutral position N, at a speed

below 3 mph (5 km/h):

Special aspects of manual mode

F fully depress the brake pedal,

F select another mode while continuing to

press the brake pedal.

The change from one gear to another takes

place only if the vehicle speed and engine

speed permit.

F switch off the ignition.
