any changes in good time. Volkswa- gen

therefore recommends that you have your oil

changed by a Volkswa- gen dealer.

The use of engine oils conforming to the

specifications of the VW 504 00 and VW 504 00

standards is not required.

VW 507 00 requires the use of fuels with a

quality in accordance with EN 228 (for petrol)

and EN 590 (for diesel) or equivalent. Engine oils

conforming to the specifications of VW 504 00

and VW 507 00 are therefore not suitable for

many markets.

The quality of the engine oils is not only

adapted to the requirements of the engines and

exhaust gas cleaning systems, but also to the

quality of the fuel. In all combustion engines,

for technical design reasons, the engine oil

comes into contact with combustion residues

and fuel, which influences the ageing of the oil

accordingly.

If the engine is fitted with engine oil

conforming to the specifications of VW 502 00,

VW 504 00 and VW 507 00, there is a sticker on

the lock plate in the engine compartment with a

Since the quality of fuel differs from market to

market, in some cases considerably, this aspect

has to be taken into account when choosing the

appropriate engine oil.

Engine oil consumption may vary from engine

to engine and over the life of the engine.

Additives in the engine oil cause the new oil to

darken after a short period of engine operation.

This is normal and is not a reason to change

the oil more frequently.

Oil consumption can be up to 1 litre per 2000

km depending on the driving style and the

conditions under which the vehicle is used. In

the case of new vehicles, oil consumption may

be even higher during the first 5,000 kilometres.

For this reason, the oil level should be checked

regularly, preferably when refuelling and before

embarking on long journeys.

WARNING

If, in exceptional cases, you have to change the

engine oil yourself, please note the following:

● Always wear eye protection.

long motorway journeys in summer, driving with a
