Starting the engine
Never turn off the engine or switch off the
ignition when the vehicle is in motion. This
could result in loss of vehicle control,
accidents and serious injury.

● The airbags and seatbelt pretensioners do
not operate when the ignition is switched
off.
– Depress the brake pedal and hold it down
until the electronic parking brake is
disengaged.
● The brake booster does not work when the
engine is switched off. Therefore, when the
engine is switched off, the brake pedal must
be pressed harder to brake the vehicle.
– Move the selector lever to the P or N position.
– Vehicles with ignition lock: Turn the vehicle key
briefly clockwise or anti-clockwise → fig.
● The power steering does not work when
the engine is switched off. When the engine
is switched off, more force is required to
steer the vehicle.
