Driving with Emergency Assist
Switching on and off
You can switch Emergency Assist on and off in the assist systems menu of the Infotainment system.
When switched on, Emergency Assist is active only if the following prerequisites are met:
—Travel Assist or Lane Assist is switched on.
—The system has detected a road lane marking on both the right and left sides of the vehicle.
If there is a system fault, Emergency Assist can deactivate itself
automatically.
Emergency Assist is not available if the lane keeping system(Lane Assist) is not
available.
Driver intervention prompt
If the driver is inactive, Emergency Assist emits acoustic warnings and applies a braking jolt to prompt the driver to
take control of the vehicle. A message also appears on the instrument cluster display and the volume of the
Infotainment system is reduced.
System intervention
The system can brake the vehicle and keep it in lane if the driver does not react. The following indicator lamp lights
up in the instrument cluster display:
System intervenes.
You can override control at any time through hard acceleration, braking or steering.
Other road users will be warned as follows when Emergency Assist is actively performing control interventions:
—The hazard warning lights will be switched on after a short time.
—Depending on the speed, the vehicle horn will sound.
If the remaining stopping distance is sufficient, the vehicle will be braked to a standstill if necessary.
The following will happen as soon as the vehicle is stationary:
—The electromechanical parking brake is switched on.
—Position P is engaged.
—The doors will be unlocked.
—The interior lighting will be switched on.
—An emergency call (eCall) will be made, depending on the vehicle equipment.
WARNING
If Emergency Assist is triggered unexpectedly, it can result in accidents and serious injuries.
● If the vehicle behaves differently to expected, cancel the intervention of Emergency Assist by accelerating
strongly, braking or steering.
● Switch off the lane keeping system(Lane Assist).
● Do not use Travel Assist.
