not presented during the programming  
procedure will be deleted to ensure  
that any keys that are lost or stolen  
cannot be used to start the engine.  
WARNING The locked door condition is  
indicated by the red printing (B) fig. 5.  
THE FIAT CODE  
SYSTEM  
This is an electronic engine locking  
system which increases protection  
against attempted thefts of the car.  
It is automatically activated when the  
ignition key is removed.  
Each time the car is started by turning  
the ignition key to MAR, the Fiat CODE  
system control unit sends a recognition  
code to the Powertrain Control Module  
to deactivate the immobiliser.  
Activation of

a self-diagnosis (for example due to a  
voltage drop).

If, during starting, the code is not  
correctly recognised, the

contact a Fiat Dealership.  
LOCKING/UNLOCKING  
DOORS FROM THE  
OUTSIDE  
light switches on in the instrument  
panel. In this case, turn the key to  
STOP and then to MAR; if it is still  
locked, try again with the other keys  
that come with the car. Contact a Fiat  
Dealership if you still cannot start the  
engine.  
DOORS  
Mechanical key: insert the metal  
insert in the lock and turn it.  
Key with remote control (for  
versions/markets where provided):  
press the button to lock the doors,  
LOCKING/UNLOCKING  
DOORS FROM THE  
INSIDE  
Push the control lever (A) fig. 5 toward  
the door, to lock the doors or pull it to  
unlock them. With central door locking  
system (for versions/markets, where  
provided), operating the lever (A) on  
the driver's side will lock/unlock all the  
doors.  
If the  
warning light switches on,  
or the  
button to unlock the doors.  
this means that the system is running

voltage drop). Should the fault persist,  
contact a Fiat Dealership.  
WARNING Before opening a door,  
ensure that you can do it in conditions  
of safety. Open the doors only when  
the car is stationary.  
WARNING Each key has its own  
code which must be stored by the  
system’s control unit. To store new  
keys, up to a maximum of eight,  
contact a Fiat Dealership and be ready  
to present all the keys you have in  
Operating lever (A) on the other  
doors locks/unlocks only the door  
concerned. With mechanical lock,  
locking/unlocking takes place operating  
the single control levers.
