Vehicle features and options
Microfilter.
This chapter describes all standard, coun-
try-specific and optional equipment offered
with the series. It also describes features
and functions that are not necessarily avail-
able in the vehicle, e.g., due to the selected
options or country versions. This also ap-
plies to safety-related functions and sys-
tems. When using these functions and sys-
tems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Air conditioning system to control the
temperature, air flow and recirculated-
air mode.
Depending on the equipment specification:
Microfilter/activated-charcoal filter.
Automatic climate control.

ter a certain amount of time, depending on
the outside temperature.
Air conditioning
Principle
With extended air recirculation mode, the
air quality in the interior deteriorates and
window fogging increases.
The air in the interior will be cooled and
dehumidified and, depending on the temper-
ature setting, warmed again.
In case of window condensation, switch off
air recirculation mode and increase the air
flow, if needed.
Functional requirement
The car's interior can only be cooled with
the engine running.
Air flow, manual
Principle
Turning on/off
The air flow for climate control can be ad-
justed manually.
Press the button.
The LED is illuminated with air con-
ditioning switched on.
Adjusting
Depending on the weather, the windshield
may fog up briefly when the engine is
started.
Turn the ring to set the de-
sired air flow.
The higher the air flow, the
more effective the heating or
cooling power will be.
The cooling mode produces condensation,
refer to page 239, that will exit from below
the vehicle.
The air flow from the air conditioning sys-
tem may be reduced to save vehicle battery
power.
Air recirculation mode
Principle
Manual air distribution
Principle
You may react to unpleasant odors or pollu-
tants in the immediate environment by tem-
porarily suspending the supply of outside
air. The system then recirculates the inte-
rior air.
The air distribution for climate control can
be adjusted manually.
Operation
Adjusting
Press the button:
Turn the wheel to select the
desired program or the desired
intermediate setting.
The LED is illuminated when recir-
culated-air mode is switched on. The supply
of outside air is shut off.
When recirculated-air mode is switched off,
fresh air is directed into the vehicle's inte-
rior.

Switch on air conditioning if needed.
Microfilter
In external and recirculated-air mode, the
microfilter filters dust and pollen from the
air.

Press the button.
The LED is illuminated with air con-
ditioning switched on.
Temperature
Principle
Depending on the weather, the windshield
may fog up briefly when the engine is
started.
The automatic climate control achieves the
set temperature as quickly as possible, if
necessary by using the maximum cooling or
heater output, and then keeps it constant.
Air conditioning is switched on automati-
cally with the AUTO program.
The cooling mode produces condensation,
refer to page 239, that will exit from below
the vehicle.
Adjusting
Turn the wheel to set the de-
sired temperature.
Maximum cooling
Principle
The system is set to the lowest tempera-
ture, maximum air flow and recirculated-air
mode.
Do not rapidly change between different
temperature settings. The automatic climate
control will not have sufficient time to ad-
just the set temperature.
Functional requirement
The function is available at outside temper-
atures above approx. 32 ℉/0 ℃ and with
the engine running.

Climate control
Turning on/off
Turn the wheel to set the de-
sired intensity from soft to in-
tensive.
Press the button.
The LED is illuminated with the
system switched on.
The set intensity is displayed via the posi-
tion of the illuminated LED segment.
Air flows out of the air vents to the upper
body area. The air vents need to be open for
this.
Automatic recirculated-air control
(AUC)/recirculated-air mode
The air flow can be adjusted when maxi-
mum cooling is switched on.
Principle
AUTO program
Principle
The automatic recirculated-air control
(AUC) recognizes pollutants in the outside
air. The outside air supply is shut off and
the interior air is recirculated.
The AUTO program cools, ventilates or
heats the car's interior automatically.
For this, the air flow, air distribution and
temperature are regulated depending on the
settings and the interior temperature.
General information
If the system is activated, a sensor detects
pollutants in the outside air and controls the
shut-off automatically.
Turning on/off
If the system is deactivated, outside air con-
tinuously flows into the interior.
Press the button.
The LED is illuminated with the
AUTO program switched on.
With constant air recirculation mode, the
air quality in the interior deteriorates and
window fogging increases.
Depending on the selected temperature,
AUTO intensity and outside influences, the
air is directed to the windshield, side win-
dows, upper body, and into the floor area.
You may react to unpleasant odors or pollu-
tants in the immediate environment by tem-
porarily suspending the supply of outside
air. The system then recirculates the inte-
rior air.
Point the side air vents toward the side win-
dows.
The following features are switched on au-
tomatically with the AUTO program:
Turning on/off
Press button repeatedly to select an
operating mode:
Air conditioning, refer to page 209.
To switch off the program: press the button
again or manually adjust the air distribu-
tion.
LEDs off: outside air flows in continu-
ously.
Left LED on, automatic recirculated-air
control: a sensor detects pollutants in
Adjusting the intensity of the air flow
With the AUTO program switched on, the
intensity can be adjusted. This changes the
automatic control for the air mass.

Setting
The air flow directions can be individually
adjusted:
Pre-ventilation
Direct ventilation:
The air flow is directly pointed onto the
person. The air flow heats or cools no-
ticeably, depending on the adjusted tem-
perature.
Principle
The pre-ventilation ventilates the interior
and lowers its temperature, if needed.
Indirect ventilation:
General information
If the air vents are fully or partly closed,
the air is directly routed into the car's
interior.
The pre-ventilation can be switched on and
off directly or by using two preset activa-
tion times. The system remains switched on
for 30 minutes.
Front ventilation
The pre-ventilation system is operated via
the Central Information Display (CID).
Functional requirements
Direct operation: vehicle is in radio-
ready state.
Direct operation or preset activation
time: does not depend on outside tem-
perature.
The vehicle battery is sufficiently
charged.
Turn knob for continuous opening and
closing of the air vents.
