"Rear view camera"
–
With objects with a fine surface struc-
ture such as fences.
System limits
–
–
For objects with porous surfaces.
Low objects already displayed, for in-
stance curbs, can move into the blind
area of the sensors before or after a con-
tinuous tone sounds.
Safety information
Warning
Due to its limits, the system may not react,
or it may react too late or in a manner
that is not consistent with normal use.
There may be a risk of accidents or risk
of damage to property. Actively intervene
as warranted. Refer to the information in
this Owner’s Manual regarding the scope
of the system’s operation and limitations.
Unwarranted warnings
The system may issue a warning under the
following conditions even though there is
no obstacle within the detection range:
–
–
In heavy rain.
When sensors are very contaminated or
covered with ice.
–
–
–
When sensors are covered in snow.
On rough road surfaces.
Limits of ultrasonic measurement
The detection of objects with ultrasonic
measurements can run into physical limits,
for instance under the following conditions:
On uneven surfaces, such as speed
bumps.
–
In large buildings with right angles
and smooth walls, for instance in under-
ground garages.
–
–
For small children and animals.
For persons with certain clothing, for
instance jacket.
–
–
–
In automatic car washes.
Due to heavy exhaust.
–
–
With external fault of the ultrasound, for
instance from passing vehicles or loud
machines.
Due to other ultrasound sources, for in-
stance sweeping machines, steam clean-
ers or neon lights.
When sensors are dirty, iced over, dam-
aged or out of position.
The malfunction is signaled by a contin-
uous tone alternating between the front
and rear speakers. As soon as the mal-
function due to other ultrasound sources
is no longer present, the system is again
fully functional.
–
–
If cargo protrudes.
Under certain weather conditions such
as high moisture, wet conditions, snow-
fall, extreme heat, or strong wind.
–
With tow bars and trailer couplings of
other vehicles.
With front Park Distance Control: to reduce
unwarranted warnings, switch off automatic
Park Distance Control activation on obsta-
cle detection, for instance in car washes,
see Switching on/off.
–
–
–
With thin or wedge-shaped objects.
With moving objects.
With elevated, protruding objects such
as ledges or cargo.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed in the
instrument cluster.
–
With objects with corners and sharp
edges.
