Vehicle features and options

Parking lights.

This chapter describes all standard, coun-

try-specific and optional equipment offered

with the series. It also describes features

and functions that are not necessarily avail-

able in the vehicle, e.g., due to the selected

options or country versions. This also ap-

plies to safety-related functions and sys-

tems. When using these functions and sys-

tems, the applicable laws and regulations

must be observed.

Overview

General information

Switches in the vehicle

Switch position:

If the driver's door is opened when the igni-

tion is switched off, the exterior lighting is

automatically switched off.

Parking lights

Switch position:

The vehicle is illuminated on all sides.

Do not use the parking lights for extended

periods; otherwise, the battery may become

discharged and it would then be impossible

to start the engine.

The light switch element is located next to

the steering wheel.

Low beams

Switch position:

Automatic headlight control.

Cornering light.

The low beams illuminate when the ignition

is switched on.

Principle

The vehicle can be illuminated on one side.

The setting is stored for the driver profile

currently used.

Turning on

Pathway lighting

General information

The low beams stay illuminated for a partic-

ular time if the high beams are switched on

after radio-ready state is switched off.

Canada: the low beams stay illuminated for

a particular time if the headlight flasher

is switched on after radio-ready state is

switched off.

With radio-ready state switched off, press

the lever either up or down past the resist-

ance point for approx. 2 seconds.

Setting the duration

Via the Central Information Display (CID):

Turning off

Briefly press the lever to the resistance

point in the opposite direction.

Welcome lights

General information

Depending on the vehicle equipment and

the ambient brightness, individual lighting

functions may be switched on briefly when

the vehicle is unlocked.

Automatic headlight control

Principle

The low beams are switched on and off

automatically depending on the ambient

brightness, for example in tunnels, in twi-

light or if there is precipitation.

A blue sky with the sun low on the horizon

Activating

Switch position:

Cornering light

The indicator light in the instrument clus-

ter is illuminated when the low beams are

switched on.

General information

Switch position:

In tight curves, for instance on mountain-

ous roads or when turning, an additional

cornering light is switched on that illumi-

nates the inside of the curve when the vehi-

cle is moving below a certain speed.

System limits

The automatic headlight control cannot re-

place your personal judgment of lighting

conditions.

The cornering light is automatically

switched on depending on the steering-

wheel angle or, where applicable, the use

of turn signals.

For example, the sensors are unable to de-

tect fog or hazy weather. In these situa-

tions, turn the lights on manually.

When driving in reverse, the cornering

lights may be automatically switched on re-

gardless of the steering-wheel angle.

Daytime driving lights

General information

Adaptive headlight range con-

Depending on the national-market ver-

sion:

The adaptive headlight range control fea-

ture balances out acceleration and braking

processes as well as the vehicle load condi-

tions in order to avoid blinding oncoming

traffic. Illumination of the road is optimized.

The daytime driving lights illuminate when

the ignition is switched on.

Depending on the national-market version:

after switching off the ignition, the parking

lights will illuminate in position

Automatic High Beam Assis-

tant

Activate/deactivate

In some countries, daytime driving lights

are mandatory, so it may not be possible to

deactivate the daytime running lights.

Principle

The Automatic High Beam Assistant detects

other road users early on and automatically

switches the high beams on or off depend-

ing on the traffic situation.

General information

The Automatic High Beam Assistant en-

sures that the high beams are switched on,

whenever the traffic situation allows. In the

manually at any time.

When detecting poorly-lit road users

such as pedestrians, cyclists, horseback

riders and wagons; when driving close

to train or ship traffic; or at animal

crossings.

In tight curves, on hilltops or in de-

pressions, in crossing traffic or half-ob-

scured oncoming traffic on highways.

In poorly-lit towns and cities or in the

presence of highly reflective signs.

When the windshield in front of the in-

terior mirror is fogged up, dirty or cov-

ered with stickers, etc.

Fog lights

The indicator light in the instrument

cluster is illuminated when the low

beams are switched on.

Front fog lights

Principle

The front fog lights work alongside the low

beams to illuminate a wider area of the

roadway.

The headlights are automatically changed

between low beams and high beams.

The blue indicator light in the instru-

ment cluster illuminates when the

system switches on the high beams.

Functional requirement

The Automatic High Beam Assistant is de-

activated when manually switching the high

beams on and off, refer to page 108.

Turning on/off

To reactivate the Automatic High Beam As-

sistant, press the button on the turn signal

lever.

Press the button.

The green indicator light illumi-

nates if the front fog lights are switched on.

System limits

The Automatic High Beam Assistant cannot

replace the driver's personal judgment of

General information

Depending on the equipment, the interior

lights, footwell lights, entry lights, and cour-

tesy lights are controlled automatically.

Press the button.

The brightness of some of these lights is in-

fluenced by the thumbwheel for the instru-

ment lighting.

The reading lights are located in the front

next to the interior lights.

Ambient light

General information

Depending on the equipment version, light-

ing can be adjusted for some lights in the

car's interior.

Changing color

Push the switch forward or back:

manual color change.

Press the switch forward or back-

ward and hold for approx. 3 sec-

onds until the Ambient Light

change. Push the switch again to end color

changes.

Setting the brightness

Depending on the equipment, the bright-

ness of the ambient light can be adjusted

via the thumbwheel for the instrument

lighting or on the control display.
