TYRES (continued)
Tyre pressures
Pressures should be checked when the
tyres are cold; ignore higher pressures
which may be reached in hot weather
or following a fast journey.
Emergency spare wheel
Tyre pressures must be adhered to (re-
member to check the emergency spare
wheel at the same time). Check them
at least once a month and before long
journeys. Refer to the information on
“Tyre pressures” in this handbook or,
depending on the vehicle, to the label
located on the edge of the driver’s
door.
Refer to the information on the
“Emergency spare wheel” and instruc-
tions on “Changing a wheel” in
Section 5.
If tyre pressures cannot be checked
when the tyres are cold, assume an in-
crease of 0.2 to 0.3 bar (or 3 PSI).
Changing wheels around
This practice is not recommended.
Never deflate a hot tyre.
Fitting new tyres
Incorrect tyre pressures
lead to abnormal tyre wear
and unusually hot running.
These are factors which
may seriously affect safety and lead
to:
For safety reasons, this op-
eration must be carried out
by a specialist.
Fitting different tyres may
change your vehicle as follows:
– poor roadholding,
– risk of blowout or tread separa-
tion.
– it may mean that your vehicle no
longer conforms to current regu-
lations;
The pressure depends on the load
and the speed of use. Adjust the
pressures according to the condi-
tions of use (refer to the information
on “Tyre pressures”).
Please be aware that a
poorly tightened or miss-
ing valve cap can make the

caps identical to the originals and
screw them down fully.
– it may cause tyre noise;
– it may affect the use of snow
chains.
