KEYS AND DOORS
Keys—
—Standard-type ignition switch
Your vehicle is supplied with two kinds of
keys.
NOTICE
1. Master keys (black)—
When using a key containing a tran-
sponder chip, observe the following pre-
cautio:
These keys work in every lock. Your Toyo-
ta dealer will need one of them to make
a new key with a built-in transponder chip.
D Wen starting the engine, do not use
the key with a key ring resting on the
key grip and do not press the key ring
against the key grip. Otherwise the en-
gine may not start, or may stop soon
after it starts.
Since the doors and boot lid can be locked
without a key, you should always carry a
spare master key in case you accidentally
lock your keys inside the vehicle.
2. Sub key (grey)—
This key will not work in the glove box,
boot and the door located behind the rear
seat armrest.
To protect items loced in the boot or
glove box when using valet parking, leave
the sub key with the attendant.
A transponder chip for engine immobiliser
system has been placed in the head of the
master and sub keys. These chips are
needed to enable the system to function cor-
rectly, so be careful not to lose these keys.
If you make your own duplicate key, you will
not be able to cancel the system or start the
engine.
12
KEYS AND DOORS
NOTICE
NOTICE
When starting the engine, do not use the
key with other transponder keys (both
master keys and sub key) around, in-
cluding keys of other vehicles, and do
not press other key plates against the
key grip.
D Do nobend the key grip.
D Do not cover the key grip with any ma-
tial that cuts off electromagnetic
waves.
D Do not knock the key hard against
other objects.
D If you do, the engine may not start, r
may stop soon after it starts.
D Do not leave the key exposed to high
temperatures for a long period, such
as on the dashboard and bonnet under
direct sunlight.
D If the engine does not start, or stops
soon after it starts, remothe key
once and then insert it again after re-
moving other transponder keys (in-
cluding keys of othvehicles) from
the ring or while ripping or covering
them with your hand to start the en-
gine.
D Do not put the key in water or wash
it in an ultrasonic washer.
D Do not use the key with electromag-
netic materials.

or unlock all the doors, but cannot start
the engine.
NOTICE
Spare keys should not be left inside the
vehicle.
In the event that a spare key is left in the
cabin, the smart entry and start system
will remain activated even after the doors
have been locked. Under these circum-
stances, the boot can be opened even after
the driver has exited and locked the vehi-
cle, increasing the risk of theft. See “Boot
lid” on page 35 in this Section.
A transponder chip for the engine immobiliser
system has been placed in the electronic
keys. This chip is needed to enable the sys-
tem to function correctly, so be careful not
to lose these keys.
