Boot lid—
CAUTION
Keep the boot lid closed while driving.
This not only keeps the luggage from
being thrown out but also prevents ex-
haust gases from entering the vehicle
which can cause serious injury or death.

AND START SYSTEM
When you carry the registered key into the
activation area, the boot lid can be opened.
For further information on the activation area,
see “ACTIVATION AREA” on page 27 in this
Section.
Vehicles with smart entry and start sys-
tem
To open the boot lid, press the boot lid opener
switch securely.
To open the boot lid from the outside, in-
sert the master key (vehicles with stan-
dard-type ignition switch) or mechanical
key (vehicles with smart entry and start
system) and turn it clockwise.
A warning buzzer may sound when:
D The key is brought into the cabin after the
boot lid is opened, and the boot lid is then
closed.
D The key is near the boot when the boot

The buzzer may sound even when the key
is not in the boot. This does not indicate a
problem. However, under these circum-
stances, the boot lid cannot be opened using
the smart entry and start system. Open the
boot lid using other methods.
To close the boot lid, lower it and press down
on it. After closing the boot lid, try pulling it
up to make sure it is securely closed.
