Fitting the rear towing eye

In vehicles without a factory-fitted towing bracketthere is a mount for the screw-in towing eye behind a cover on  
the right-hand side of the rear bumper → Fig. 1.  
The towing eye must always be kept in the vehicle.  
In vehicles with a factory-fitted towing bracketthere isno mount for a screw-in towing eye behind the cover. To tow,  
fit and use the ball coupling neck as required (→ Trailer towing) →  
.
Observe the notes on driving while towing (→ Tow-starting and towing).  
Fitting the towing eye at the rear (only vehicles without factory-fitted towing bracket )  
Take the towing eye out of the vehicle toolkit (→ Vehicle toolkit).  
Push the side area of the cover in the direction of the arrow to release the cover→ Fig. 1.  
Remove the cover and leave it hanging from the vehicle.  
Turn the towing eye into the mountas shown by the arrowand tighten as far as possible→ Fig. 2 , . Use a  
suitable object to screw the towing eye fully and securely into the mounting.  
Once you have finished towing, remove the towing eye by unscrewing itin the opposite direction to the arrow.  
Insert the cap in the respective recess and press in until it engages.  
If necessary clean the towing eye and place them back in the vehicle toolkit in the luggage compartment.  
NOTICE  
The towing eye must always be screwed fully and securely into the mounting. The towing eye could otherwise be  
ripped out of the mounting when the vehicle is being towed.
