Vehicle features and options
Warning
When driving, loose items or devices con-
nected to the vehicle with a cable, i.e.,
mobile phones, may be thrown around the
vehicle, e.g., in the event of an accident
or when braking or performing evasive
maneuvers. There is a risk of injury and
risk of damage to property. Secure loose
objects or devices that are connected to
the vehicle via a cable.
This chapter describes model-specific
equipment, systems, and functions that are
currently available, or may become available
in the future, even if they are not present in
the vehicle.
Additional information:
Vehicle equipment, refer to page 8.
Loading
Warning
Principle
Improperly stowed objects can slip and be
thrown into the car's interior, for instance
in the event of an accident, braking or an
evasive maneuver. Vehicle occupants can
be hit and injured. There is a risk of injury
and risk of damage to property. Stow and
secure objects and cargo properly.
When loading the vehicle, items and cargo
must be stowed and secured properly. Do
not exceed the permissible weights and
loads.
Safety information
Warning
NOTICE
High gross vehicle weight can overheat
the tires, damage them internally and
cause a sudden tire pressure loss. Driv-
ing characteristics may be negatively
impacted, reducing directional stability,
lengthening the braking distances and
changing the steering response. There is
a risk of accident, injury, or property dam-
age. Pay attention to the permitted load-
carrying capacity of the tires and never
exceed the permitted gross vehicle weight.
Fluids in the cargo area can cause dam-
age. There is a risk of damage to property.
Make sure that no fluids leak in the cargo
area.
Steps for determining correct load
limit
1. Locate the statement “The combined
weight of occupants and cargo should
never exceed XXX kg or XXX lbs” on
the vehicle’s placard.
2. Determine the combined weight of the
driver and passengers that will be riding
in the vehicle.

CONTROLS
Cargo area
Cover sharp edges and corners on the
cargo.
3. Subtract the combined weight of the
driver and passengers from XXX kg or
XXX lbs
Do not stack cargo above the upper edge
of the backrests.
4. The resulting figure equals the availa-
ble amount of cargo and luggage load
capacity. For example, if the “XXX”
amount equals 1,400 lbs and there will
be five 150 lbs passengers in the vehi-
cle, the amount of available cargo and
luggage load capacity is 650 lbs (1,400 -
750 (5 x 150) = 650 lbs)
If stowing sufficiently large items in the
cargo area, fold down the rear seat back-
rests completely.
Small, light-weight cargo: Secure with
tensioning/draw straps or with a cargo
net.
Larger, heavy cargo: Secure with cargo
straps.
5. Determine the combined weight of lug-
gage and cargo being loaded on the ve-
hicle. That weight may not safely exceed
the available cargo and luggage load ca-
pacity calculated in Step 4.
Stow particularly heavy cargo as far for-
ward as possible, directly behind and be-
low the rear seat backrests. When the
rear seat is not occupied, secure each
of the outer seat belts in the opposite
buckle.
6. If the vehicle will be towing a trailer,
load from your trailer will be transferred
to the vehicle. Consult this manual to
determine how this reduces the availa-
ble cargo and luggage load capacity of
the vehicle.
Cargo floor panel
Principle
Payload
To stow cargo, a storage compartment is
provided under the cargo area floor. The
cargo area floor can be folded up and re-
moved.
Safety information
Warning
Improper use of the cargo area floor can
lead to a risk of objects flying about dur-
ing braking and evasive maneuvers, for ex-
ample. There is a risk of injury and risk of
damage to property.
The maximum payload is the sum of the
weight of the occupants and the cargo.
The greater the weight of the occupants, the
less cargo that can be transported.
Do not use the cargo area floor to
separate the cargo area and vehicle
interior in the sense of a luggage net.
Stowing and securing cargo
To stow and secure cargo, note the follow-
ing:
Only use the cargo area floor in the
folded-up position when the rear seat
backrests are folded up and locked.

Removing the cargo floor panel
The cargo area floor can be removed as fol-
lows:
Always secure cargo against slipping,
using straps, belts and lashing eyes,
for instance.
1. Remove the cargo cover as necessary.
2. Grip the cargo area floor by the loop and
fold it up.
NOTICE
3. Pull the trunk floor back and up, out of
the mounts, then remove.
The storage space under the cargo floor
panel is only suitable for soft objects. Hard
objects may result in damage to the vehi-
cle electrical system in the event of an
accident. There is a risk of damage to
property. Only stow soft objects under the
cargo floor panel.
Opening the storage compartment
Additional information:
Remove cargo cover, refer to page 272.
Inserting the cargo floor panel
Proceed in reverse order to insert the cargo
area floor:
1. Insert the trunk floor into the mount
from behind.
To open the storage compartment, pull the
cargo area floor upward using the loop and
fold it open.
2. Fold the cargo area floor down.
Cargo area floor positions
Principle
Depending on vehicle equipment, the cargo
area floor can be placed in two different po-
sitions to adapt the cargo area to the cargo.
