Idle state
This chapter describes model-specific
equipment, systems, and functions that are
currently available, or may become available
in the future, even if they are not present in
the vehicle.
Principle
The vehicle switches off when set to idle
state.
The vehicle is in idle state prior to opening
from the outside and after exiting and lock-
ing.
Additional information:
Vehicle equipment, refer to page 8.
Safety information
General information
Warning
An unsecured vehicle can begin to move
and possibly roll away. There is a risk of
accident, injury, or property damage. Be-
fore leaving the vehicle, secure the vehicle
against rolling away.
Depending on the situation, the vehicle is in
one of the three states:
Idle state.
Standby state.
Drive-ready state.
In order to ensure that the vehicle is se-
cured against rolling away, follow the fol-
lowing:
Overview
Set the parking brake.
On uphill grades or on downhill
slopes, turn the front wheels in the
direction of the curb.
On uphill grades or on downhill
slopes, also secure the vehicle, for in-
stance with a wheel chock.
Warning
Unattended children or animals in the ve-
hicle can cause the vehicle to move and
endanger themselves and traffic, for exam-
ple, due to the following actions:
1
2
Start/Stop switch
Volume button, setting idle state
Establishing standby.
Releasing the parking brake.
Opening and closing the doors or
windows.

CONTROLS
Operating state of the vehicle
Engaging selector lever position N.
Using vehicle equipment.
To switch to idle state, press
and hold the volume button
on the switch cluster until the
OFF indicator on the Interac-
tion Unit disappears.
There is a risk of accident, injury, or prop-
erty damage. Do not leave children or ani-
mals unattended in the vehicle. Take the
vehicle key with you when exiting and
lock the vehicle.
Deep sleep mode
Principle
Establishing the sleep mode
automatically
The sleep mode is established automatically
such as in the following situations:
Deep sleep mode is activated to prevent the
vehicle battery from discharging when the
vehicle is stationary for several weeks.
In deep sleep mode, the vehicle functions
are limited to the essentials.
After several minutes, if no operation
takes place on the vehicle.
General information
If the charge state of the vehicle battery
is low.
When the vehicle is shut down for longer
than three months, some special measures
are necessary. For more information, con-
tact an authorized service center or another
qualified service center or repair shop.
Depending on settings configured via
Interaction Unit: One or both front doors
will open when exiting the vehicle after
a drive.
In some situations, the idle state is not set
automatically, for instance during a phone
call or when the low-beam headlights are
switched on.
Activating deep sleep mode
1. Go through the menu as follows: Apps
menu / "Vehicle" / "System settings" /
"Deep sleep mode".
Establishing idle state when
opening the front doors
2. Select the desired setting.
After a trip, the sleep mode can be estab-
lished by opening the front doors. For this
purpose, all passengers must exit the vehi-
cle.
To activate/deactivate this function, go
through the menu as follows: Apps menu /
"Vehicle" / "Doors and windows" / "Lock/
unlock" / "Turn off after opening door".
To access the vehicle while it is in deep
sleep mode, press the Open button in the
cargo area. Deep sleep mode remains on in
this case.
Establishing the sleep mode
manually
The vehicle can be set to idle state manually
at the end of the drive.

Operating state of the vehicle
CONTROLS
Deactivating deep sleep mode
General information
Turn off the function using the Interac-
tion Unit.
Some vehicle functions can only be used
with the drive-ready state switched on.
Driving with the vehicle.
Safety information
Standby state
DANGER
If the exhaust pipe is blocked or ventila-
tion is insufficient, harmful exhaust gases
can penetrate the vehicle. The exhaust
gases contain pollutants which are color-
less and odorless. In enclosed areas, ex-
haust gases can also accumulate outside of
the vehicle. There is a danger to life. Keep
the exhaust pipe free and ensure sufficient
ventilation.
Principle
When standby state is switched on, most
functions can be used while the vehicle is
stationary. Desired settings can be adjusted.
The vehicle is in the standby state after the
front doors are opened from the outside.
Manually setting to standby
General information
Standby can be switched back on after the
vehicle is automatically set to idle state.
Warning
An unsecured vehicle can begin to move
and possibly roll away. There is a risk of
accident, injury, or property damage. Be-
fore leaving the vehicle, secure the vehicle
against rolling away.
Using the Start/Stop switch
Turn the Start/Stop button on the
switch cluster. The Interaction Unit
illuminates.
In order to ensure that the vehicle is se-
cured against rolling away, follow the fol-
lowing:
Interaction Unit view
Set the parking brake.
On uphill grades or on downhill
slopes, turn the front wheels in the
direction of the curb.
OFF is displayed on the Inter-
action Unit. The drivetrain is
switched off and standby state
switched on.
On uphill grades or on downhill
slopes, also secure the vehicle, for in-
stance with a wheel chock.
Drive-ready state
NOTICE
Repeatedly attempting to start the engine
or repeatedly starting the vehicle in rapid
succession can cause the starter to over-
heat. This also results in unburned or inad-
equately burned fuel, and can cause the
catalytic converter to overheat. There is
Principle
Turning on drive-ready state corresponds to
starting the engine.

a risk of damage to property. Avoid re-
peated starting of the vehicle, particularly
repeated starting in rapid succession.
Turning off drive-ready state
After stopping the vehicle:
1. Apply the brake and engage selector
lever position P.
Turning on the drive-ready state
General information
2. Engage the parking brake.
3. Turn the Start/Stop switch on the center
console.
Drive-ready state is turned on/off
using the Start/Stop button on the
switch cluster.
The READY indicator goes out and a
signal tone sounds.
The drive-ready state is switched off auto-
matically if the driver's seat belt is not
buckled when the driver's door is opened.
Turning on the drive-ready state
1. Depress the brake pedal.
2.
Turn the Start/Stop button on the
switch cluster.
The ignition is activated automatically for
a brief time and is stopped as soon as the
engine starts.
Most indicator lights and warning lights on
the Interaction Unit illuminate for different
lengths of time.
Gasoline engine
Depending on the motorization, the full
drive power may not be available for ap-
proximately 30 seconds after starting the
engine. In this case, the vehicle will not
accelerate as usual.
Interaction Unit view
When drive-ready state is on, the Interac-
tion Unit indicates this by displaying neces-
sary driving information or READY, depend-
ing on vehicle equipment.
