in the future, even if they are not present in  
the vehicle.  
Warning  
The vehicle key has a button cell battery.  
Batteries or button cell batteries can be  
swallowed and lead to serious or fatal in-  
juries within two hours, for example due  
to internal burns or chemical burns. There  
is a risk of injury or danger to life. Keep  
the vehicle key and batteries out of reach  
of children. Immediately seek medical help  
if there is any suspicion that a battery or  
button cell battery has been swallowed or  
is located in any part of the body.

Vehicle key  
Principle  
Two vehicle keys are included in the scope  
of delivery, each containing an integrated  
key.  
Overview  
Each vehicle key contains a replaceable  
battery. If the vehicle key's battery is dis-  
charged, the vehicle key will not be de-  
tected. In this case, drive-ready state can  
be turned on by emergency detection of the  
vehicle key.  
Depending on the equipment and national-  
market version, various settings are possi-  
ble for the button functions.  
Buttons on the vehicle key.  
A MINI ID or driver profile with personal  
settings can be assigned to a vehicle key.

this vehicle key must be deleted. A new ve-  
hicle key can then be assigned to the MINI  
ID or driver profile.  
Replacing the battery  
3. Use a coin to open the battery compart-  
ment lid, turning the coin counterclock-  
wise.  
NOTICE  
Improper batteries in a battery-operated  
device can damage the device. There is a  
risk of damage to property. Always replace  
the discharged battery with a battery with  
the same voltage, the same size and the  
same specification.

Integrated key  
Principle  
The integrated key is built into the vehicle  
key. If the electrical system malfunctions,  
the vehicle can be unlocked and locked  
manually using the integrated key.  
Depending on the national-market version,  
the integrated key will fit in the glove com-  
partment.  
5. Insert a CR2032 3V battery with the  
positive terminal facing up.  
6. Use a coin to close the battery compart-  
ment lid, turning the coin clockwise, ar-  
row 1. The lid is fully closed when the  
arrowheads, arrow 2, point toward each  
other.

locking from the inside is only possible  
with particular knowledge.  
If persons or animals spend a lengthy time  
in the vehicle and are thereby exposed to  
extreme temperatures, there is a risk of

vated alarm system will be triggered when  
the door is opened.  
In this case, use the vehicle key emergency  
detection to switch off the alarm.  
If the doors are manually locked from the  
inside, the alarm system is not activated.

If the vehicle key's battery is discharged,  
the vehicle key will not be detected. In this  
case, drive-ready state can be turned on by

less they were manually switched off.  
Establishing standby.  
Depending on vehicle equipment,  
folded-in exterior mirrors are folded out.  
Releasing the parking brake.  
Opening and closing the doors or  
windows.  
If the exterior mirrors were folded in  
using the button inside the vehicle, they  
will not fold out when the vehicle is un-  
locked.

There is a risk of accident, injury, or prop-  
erty damage. Do not leave children or ani-  
mals unattended in the vehicle. Take the  
vehicle key with you when exiting and

The window will be lowered slightly when  
pulling on the door handle. In the event of  
frost, the window may be frozen solid and  
may not be able to be lowered. There is a  
risk of damage to property. When pulling  
on the door handle, make sure that the  
window is lowered. If necessary, remove  
snow and ice from the window. Do not  
open the door with force.

key, close the driver’s door.  
Depending on vehicle equipment, the  
exterior mirrors can be folded in au-  
tomatically when locking. The exterior  
mirrors are not folded in when the haz-  
ard warning flashers are switched on.

The vehicle can be accessed without using  
the vehicle key.

door openers.  
The vehicle key is automatically detected  
near the vehicle.

Function availability depends on vehicle

If the drive-ready state is still turned on  
when you lock the vehicle, the vehicle horn  
will honk twice. In this case, drive-ready  
state must be turned off using the Start/  
Stop switch.

phone and digital key.

handle, the following functional require-

Principle  
The vehicle will be unlocked when an au-  
thorized vehicle key is detected in the un-  
locking zone.  
The unlocking zone is located within a ra-  
dius of approx. 5 ft/1.50 m around the side  
and rear of the vehicle.  
The vehicle will be locked when the vehicle  
key leaves the locking zone.  
To unlock the vehicle using the door handle,  
reach into the recessed grip on the driver's  
door.  
The locking zone is located within a radius  
of approx. 9 ft/3 m around the side and rear  
of the vehicle.  
Locking the vehicle with the door  
handle  
Automatic unlocking and locking must be  
activated in the settings.  
1. To lock the vehicle using the door han-  
dle, close the driver’s door.

The function is available with Comfort Ac-  
cess.  
2. While carrying the vehicle key, touch  
the grooved surface on the closed driv-  
er’s door handle with your finger ap-  
prox. 1 second and hold it there without  
reaching into the recessed grip.  
Depending on the national-market version,  
touchless unlocking and locking is also pos-  
sible for compatible smartphones with a  
digital key. Enable Bluetooth on your smart-  
phone to do so.  
If the vehicle key is located in the unlocking  
zone for an extended period of time without  
movement, the vehicle will be locked auto-  
matically.  
If someone is detected on a seat while lock-  
ing the vehicle, the following restrictions  
apply:  
The vehicle will be locked but not se-  
cured against theft.  
Malfunction  
Wet or snowy conditions may disrupt the  
locking request detection on the door han-  
dles.  
The fuel filler flap remains unlocked.

the tailgate. There is a risk of injury. Make

To unlock/lock the vehicle with the MINI  
Digital Key, hold the smartphone's NFC an-  
tenna directly over the middle of the driv-  
er’s door handle. The position of the near  
field communication antenna depends on  
the smartphone model.  
Warning  
The tailgate swings back and up when it  
opens. There is a risk of injury or risk of  
damage to property. Make sure that the  
travel path of the tailgate is clear during  
opening and closing.  
When locking the vehicle with the smart-  
phone, make sure that all doors and the

Sharing digital keys

Deleted digital keys cannot be restored.  
Deleting the main digital key  
The MINI Digital Key makes it possible to  
share digital keys with other people. This  
option is available via the smartphone that  
is enabled as main digital key. This function  
must be supported by the smartphone.  
The main digital key can be deleted using  
the smartphone or Interaction Unit.  
The deletion of the main digital key is com-  
pleted immediately.  
Deleting a shared key  
Forwarding authorization  
Shared keys can be deleted using the smart-  
phone with the main digital key, using the  
smartphone with a shared key, or using the  
Interaction Unit.  
To share the digital key, select the corre-  
sponding function on the smartphone, for  
instance in the Wallet app.  
As soon as a digital key is shared with  
another person, the person will receive an  
invitation. When the invitation is accepted,  
the digital key on the recipient's smart-  
phone will be activated.  
The deletion via the smartphone using the  
main digital key will not be performed until  
the vehicle is used with a key other than the  
key to be deleted.  
Keys are deleted immediately when using  
the smartphone with shared key or the In-  
teraction Unit to do so.  
Limiting the range of functions  
Certain functions of the digital key can be  
limited before handing it over. For exam-  
ple, you can disable restrictions for driving

After a power interruption during the open-  
ing or closing process, the glass sunroof can  
only be operated to a limited extent. Initial-  
izing the system can help in this case.
