The needle indicators may move slightly after  
the ignition switch is placed in the OFFor

If the engine is overheated, continued op-  
eration of the vehicle may seriously damage  
the engine. (See “If your vehicle overheats”  
(P.6-8) for immediate action required.)

The tachometer indicates the engine speed in revolu-  
tions per minute (rpm). Do not rev the engine into

gauge reads 0 (empty).  
The instrument brightness control operates when the  
ignition switch is in the “ON” position.

If the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) illuminates while  
the engine is running, it may indicate that the fuel filler  
cap is loose or missing, or that the fuel level is low.  
Make sure that the fuel filler cap is installed and closed  
tightly, and that a sufficient amount of fuel remains in  
the fuel tank. (See “Malfunction Indicator Light (MI or  
MIL)” (P.2-16).)  
When the outside air temperature becomes 38C  
(378F) or lower, the outside air temperature display  
blinks to give a warning.  
When the brightness level reaches the maximum or  
minimum, a beep will sound.  
The display will stop blinking after 1 minute or when  
the outside air temperature becomes 48C (398F) or  
above.  
CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMIS-  
SION (CVT) POSITION INDICATOR (if  
equipped)  
INSTRUMENT BRIGHTNESS CONTROL  
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) position  
indicator indicates the shift lever position when the  
ignition switch is in the “ON” position.

average fuel consumption since the last reset. Reset-  
ting is done by pushing the trip computer setting

Resetting displays  
When the average fuel consumption, elapsed time or  
TRIP B is displayed, push the trip computer mode  
The distance to empty (dte) mode provides you with an  
estimation of the distance that can be driven before  
refueling. The dte is constantly being calculated, based  
on the amount of fuel in the fuel tank and the actual fuel  
consumption.  
(See “Engine oil” (P.8-8) for checking the oil level.)
