Caution
♦ Do not touch the bulb of the gas discharge lamp with
bare fingers. When the light bulb is switched on, the heat
would vaporise the oil of the finger prints which would
then settle on the reflector, impairing the brightness of
the headlight. Wear clean fabric gloves when inserting a
gas discharge lamp.
♦ A defective gas discharge lamp must always be re‐
newed with a new gas discharge lamp of the same type.
The designation appears on the base of the bulb or on
the bulb glass.
♦ Properly engage connectors during installation and the
connection is seated tightly.

Note
♦ Arteb headlights can be identified by the large cap -6- with
retaining clip on the back side.
♦ Before working on headlights, always switch off the head‐
lights and remove the ignition key.
♦ When dealing with complaints, it is absolutely essential that
the function and operation of the lighting system are first
understood.

Fault detection and fault display:
The onboard supply control unit has a self-diagnostic function,
which makes fault finding on headlights easier.
For fault finding, use the systems described in chapter “Vehi‐
cle diagnosis, testing and information system” in “Guided Fault
Finding” mode ⇒ page 269 .
