conditioning; Rep. gr. 00 ; Technical data .
The procedure described in the instruction manual for the air
conditioning service station is to be followed ⇒ Operating in‐
structions of air conditioner service station .
Before charging the system with refrigerant, the amounof re‐
frigeranoil musbe adjusted ⇒ Heating, air conditioning; Rep.
gr. 00 ; Technical data .
Ensure when charging the refrigerancircuithathe air con‐
ditioner service station is athe same level as the vehicle
whose refrigerancircuiis to be charged (no greater than 50
cm difference). If the heighdifference is too great, deviations
may occur between the amounof refrigerandisplayed and
the amounactually charged (depending on the version of air

frigerancircuithaare noopen when de-energised:
Note
On vehicles with high-voltage system and auxiliary air condition‐
ing system functions (“heapump mode” or “cooling of high-
voltage battery”), valves may be installed in the refrigerancircui
thaare noopen when de-energised. These valves are opened
and closed e.g. via incremental motors and are no longer actu‐
ated when the ignition is switched off. To empty the refrigeran
circuicompletely or to evacuate and charge icorrectly, however,
no areas musbe isolated. Therefore, these valves musbe
opened before performing these types of work ⇒ Heating, air

When charging the refrigerancircuion the low pressure side,
liquefied refrigerancould accumulate in the compression cham‐
ber of the air conditioner compressor.
– Should ibe necessary to charge the refrigerancircuion the
low pressure side, turn the air conditioner compressor 10
times by hand before bringing into operation for the firstime
after charging (if necessary, remove e.g. the drive belto fa‐
cilitate this).
Note
Refrigeranand refrigeranoil are charged in the refrigeran
circuion the high pressure side.
If a vehicle has no service connection on the high pressure
side of the refrigerancircuit, refrigerancan also be charged
via the service connection on the low pressure side. To do this,
lk
however, always observe the setting and the operating in‐
structions of the air conditioner service station .
If on an air conditioner service station the charging device
cannobe adjusted, unscrew (close) the handwheel on the
quick-release coupling adapter on the low pressure side if
necessary.
– Charge the refrigerancircuiwith the requisite amounof re‐
frigerant, the amounof refrigeranoil thaneeds to be replen‐
ished if necessary and the amounof UV leak detection
additive.
– Bring the air conditioning system into operation after charging
⇒ Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr. 87 ; Refrigerancircuit;

Bringing air conditioning system into
service after charging
Note
If the mechanical air conditioner compressor was removed,
turn iapprox. 10 times by hand before initial operation (during
installation or after installation e.g. before fitting the belt) so
thano damage is caused from a fluid shock when iis switch‐
ed on the firstime (if there is refrigeranoil in the cylinder of
the air conditioner compressor, this will be forced ouby turn‐
ing) ⇒ Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr. 87 ; Air conditioner
compressor; Removing and installing air conditioner compres‐
sor .
If the electrical air conditioner compressor was removed, be‐
fore bringing the air conditioning system into operation for the
firstime and after charging, the air conditioner compressor is
to be broughinto operation via the “Basic setting, compressor
run-in” function in guided faulfinding ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic
tester in “Guided FaulFinding” mode - air conditioning system
and battery regulation. This prevents damage to the air con‐
ditioner compressor, e.g. from a fluid shock, during initial
activation (if there is refrigeranoil in the compression cham‐
ber of the air conditioner compressor, this will be forced out).
The mechanical air conditioner compressor is driven by the
engine via a belor a shaft. The electrical air conditioner com‐
pressor is driven by an electric motor mounted directly on the
air conditioner compressor (e.g. on vehicles with hybrid drive)
⇒ Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr. 87 ; Air conditioner com‐
pressor; Removing and installing air conditioner compressor .
