Check headlight adjustment using headlight adjusting unit -VAS  
621 005-  
– With the dipped beam switched on, the lowest part of the  
horizontal light-dark border must be aligned with the dividing  
line -1- of the test area.  
– The breaking point -2- between the horizontal part of the  
light-dark border on the left and the slope on the right should  
be on the vertical line passing through the centre mark.  
Note  
To simplify the determination of the breaking point -2-, cover  
and uncover left (from driver perspective) half of the head‐  
light a few times. Then check dipped beam again.  
After correct adjustment of dipped beams, the centre point of  
the main beam must lie on the centre mark -3-.

Matrix LED headlights: adjusting  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Headlight adjustment unit -VAS 621 001-  
♦ Vehicle diagnostic tester  
Note  
The headlight adjustment is subject to a separate charge.  
Vehicles with matrix LED headlights can be identified via the  
PR number 8IV.  
– Use vehicle diagnosis tester to carry out basic setting in  
0055 Headlight range control ⇒ page 30 .

– Press function button -1- in main menu of headlight adjusting  
unit -VAS 621 001-.  
– Use selector buttons on headlight adjusting unit -VAS  
621 001- to select »Dipped beam« menu.  
Adjusting left headlight  
1 - Height adjustment  
2 - Lateral adjustment  
– Turn height adjustment screw -1- until setting is correct.  
– Turn lateral adjustment screw -2- until setting is correct.  
Note  
The main beam is then calibrated with the vehicle diagnostic  
tester.  
For this purpose, the test programme activates a reference seg‐  
ment in the matrix for each headlight.

– For calibration of the main beam, »VW Seg« must be selec‐  
ted on the headlight adjustment unit -VAS 621 001-.  
– Transfer measured values for both headlights in angular mi‐  
nutes (note algebraic signs) to vehicle diagnostic tester.  
This concludes the adjustment process.

Note  
Additional weights are no longer used.  
Instead, a different inclination setting on the headlight adjust‐  
ment unit is used.  
If the maintenance tables are used, the settings are dis‐  
played in the vehicle-specific maintenance list.  
The headlight adjustment is subject to a separate charge.

Test and adjustment conditions  
Tyre pressure OK  
Lenses must not be damaged or dirty.  
Reflectors and bulbs OK.  
The vehicle must be rolled forward and backward several  
metres or front and rear springs must be bounced fully sev‐  
eral times so that springs settle.  
Vehicle and headlight adjuster must be on a level surface.  
Vehicle and headlight adjuster must be aligned.  
Inclination must be set.  
Refer to the ⇒ operating instructions for headlight adjust‐  
ment units.  
The current software for the headlight adjustment unit -VAS  
621 001- is available on the equipment manufacturer’s  
homepage.
