compatibility.
Never feed electricity into the socket.
230-volt socket with earthing contact:
Do not plug any heavy devices or connections, such as mains adapters, directly into the socket.
Do not connect any lights which use neon tubes.
Only connect devices to the socket with a voltage that matches the voltage of the socket.
With electrical devices that require a high level of current in the start phase, the built-in excess current switch
will prevent the device from being switched on. If this happens, disconnect the device from the power supply
and reconnect after waiting approximately ten seconds.
Unshielded devices can cause interference in the Infotainment system and vehicle
electronics.
Functional problems may occur with some devices when they are connected to the 230-volt socket with
earthing contact due to the lower power output (wattage).
Cyber security
What is cyber security?
Cyber security refers to measures designed to reduce the risk of unauthorised access by malware or an internet attack
on vehicle functions, data and control units.
What are connectivity components?
Control units for data transmission, interfaces, and also media and diagnostic connections are connectivity
components via which information and data can be exchanged between the vehicle and external devices or the
internet. Not all vehicles are fitted with connectivity components.
Connectivity components are the key locations for cyber security. Connectivity components are also equipped with
security mechanisms designed to minimise the risk of unauthorised access to vehicle systems.
The connectivity components include the following in particular:
Diagnostic socket.
Control unit with built-in eSIM card(OCU), e.g. the VolkswagenWe Connect control unit (OCU).
Mobile phone interface.
App-Connect.
Wi-Fi hotspot.
NFC radio technology.
Bluetooth® interface.
USB port.
SD card slot.
SIM card slot.
Security mechanisms
The software and security mechanisms in the vehicle are subject to continuous further development. As with
computers and mobile device operating systems, the software and security mechanisms in the vehicle can also be
updated at irregular intervals.
Software updates improve the security, stability and running speeds of the vehicle systems in vehicles.
WARNING
285
Despite the security mechanisms installed in the vehicle, it is not possible to completely rule out the risk of
unauthorised access by malware or an Internet attack on vehicle functions and control units. Malware that has
infected the vehicle can influence or deactivate control units and vehicle functions, or can take over control and lead
to serious accidents and fatal injuries.
If the vehicle functions or reacts differently than normal or behaves in an unusual way, reduce your speed(if
possible) immediately and in a controlled manner and go immediately to the nearest qualified workshop or seek
expert assistance.
Malware can also access data and information that are stored in control units, in the Infotainment system and on
connected data media and paired mobile devices.
Risk reduction
You too can actively reduce the risk of unauthorised access to vehicle systems and functions:
Use only data media, Bluetooth devices and mobile devices in the vehicle than do not contain manipulated data or
malware.
Have the vehicle serviced, repaired and maintained only by a qualified workshop. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
recommends using a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealership for this purpose.
Install system updates provided by Volkswagen AG immediately .
WARNING
Computers, data media and mobile devices that are connected to the Internet or that are used in public and private
networks may be infected by manipulated data or have malware installed on them.
Protect computers, data media and mobile devices with a suitable anti-virus program and by complying with
common security precautions.
Regularly update the appropriate anti-virus program with the updates or upgrades provided by the provider.
Introduction
What is a system update?
The “system update” function enables Volkswagen AG to update the control unit software in the vehicle without you
having to attend a qualified workshop.
Each system update has two phases – download followed by software installation.
The driver is prompted to confirm the start of each phase on the Infotainment system.
The “system update” function is only available in some countries and is not available for all vehicles.
What is the purpose of a system update?
The system update is a preventative measure designed to avoid unwanted incidents and system states, for example
to protect against malware.
How do I know when a system update is available?
The switched-on Infotainment system indicates that a system update is available.
If several system updates are available for the vehicle at the same time, one system update must first be installed
successfully before the next system update can be executed.
WARNING
It is possible in very rare cases that a control unit will not function properly after a software installation process.
Do not use the vehicle. Contact Customer Care at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
286

Legal information and requirements
When using VolkswagenWe Connect services, information about the vehicle is transmitted and processed online.
This data may also indirectly provide information about the respective driver, e.g. driving behaviour, location. As the
person concluding a We Connect contract with Volkswagen AG, you must ensure that data protection and privacy
rights are guaranteed when your vehicle is used by family members, friends or other drivers. You must inform the
respective driver in advance that the vehicle is transmitting and receiving data online and that you can view this data.
By concluding a VolkswagenWe Connect contract for your vehicle, you as the contracting party undertake to inform
each driver that the vehicle can transmit and receive data online, as required by data protection legislation. This also
applies if you sell or lend your vehicle.
Failure to observe this obligation to inform can infringe certain rights of vehicle occupants.
Tracking services: Ask all vehicle occupants
Tracking services require geodata and vehicle data to determine whether the vehicle is complying with set speed
limits, where the vehicle is parked, or whether the vehicle is being used in a geographically-defined area. This
information is displayed in the Volkswagen We Connect Portal and in the VolkswagenWe Connect app.
Therefore, before driving, ask all occupants if they agree to use of the activated services. If an occupant does not
agree, deactivate the services (if possible) or exclude the occupant from use of the vehicle.
Personal data
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles collects, processes and uses the user's personal data in compliance with statutory
requirements. You can access the current data protection policy on the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles website.
Volkswagen protects your personal data and uses it only to the extent permitted by law, or if you have consented to
its use. Further information on data processing in relation to Volkswagen We Connect services can be found in the
current version of the privacy policy which is available on the Volkswagen website.
Permanent transfer of the vehicle
If you purchased the vehicle second-hand or another person has transferred it to you for permanent use,We Connect
may already be activated and the previous user may still be able to view collected data and control certain vehicle
functions via We Connect.
The previous owner of the vehicle must remove the vehicle from theirConnect Fleet profile if they used
Connect Fleet corporate fleet management. If the previous owner does not remove the vehicle, they will be able to
continue to view the data collected by Connect Fleet. A corresponding message appears whenWe Connect services
are activated if the vehicle is still in use in Connect Fleet. Additionally, theConnect Fleet service in the vehicle is
activated and the globe icon in the Infotainment system lights up white to show that the vehicle is transmitting data,
even without a registered primary user.
In the Infotainment system you can see whether a person is assigned to your vehicle as the primary user. In this case,
you can register yourself as the primary user of the vehicle and automatically remove the previous primary user.
Alternatively, you can permanently delete the previous user as the primary user in the Infotainment system. You can
also set the vehicle to offline mode ( (→ Volkswagen Car-Net in the Infotainment system)) to restrict your vehicle’s
communication with the Volkswagen AG data server and to limit processing of vehicle-related data and personal
details.

Introduction
Description of user roles
Primary user
or
The role of primary user is intended for the vehicle keeper or for a vehicle user who has only temporary
authorisation, for instance a lessee or company car driver. The primary user has unrestricted rights and can assign
additional rights to other users of the vehicle by inviting them as secondary users.
If a new primary user legitimises themselves for the vehicle, the previous primary user will automatically lose their
primary user role.
Secondary user
or
The “Secondary user” user role is intended for users who also use the vehicle regularly. Secondary users are
assigned by the primary user: the primary user must invite the secondary user to use the vehicle. The primary user
can delete secondary users at any time.
Guest users
The “Guest user” user role is intended for users who use a vehicle occasionally or only once. Guest users can log in
themselves in every vehicle with service capability and involvement of the primary user is not necessary. Every
vehicle user can delete the guest user in the vehicle at any time. The guest user has only restricted access to certain
online services.
Anonymous guest
The “Anonymous guest” user role is a non person-specific account that exists locally in the vehicle and cannot be
synchronised with the server. This account exists only once in vehicles with personalisation and cannot be deleted.
If the “Anonymous guest” role is activated in the vehicle, all users logged into the vehicle will be logged out
temporarily.
Anonymous users are persons who have access to the vehicle but do not log in.

Introduction
Connect Fleet is Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ complete solution enabling corporate customers to monitor and
manage their vehicle fleet. Connect Fleet supplies live vehicle data for this purpose.
Connect Fleet consists of two applications:
The Connect Fleet app allows the driver to connect to the vehicle, e.g. to manage trips digitally and to transfer the
data to the web portal.
The fleet manager registers the company and manages vehicles and drivers on theConnect Fleet web portal.
Data transmission from the vehicle takes place via the VolkswagenWe Connect control unit (OCU) with embedded
eSIM card. An alternative retrofit option is also available.
Detailed information about the functions and requirements ofConnect Fleet is available online:
Please contact your Volkswagen dealership if you have any questions.
The compatibility of the VolkswagenWe Connect control unit (OCU) with Connect Fleet depends on the
selected vehicle equipment.
The Connect Fleet app is only available from thePlay Store for Android devices and from theApp Store for iOS
devices.
The names of services etc. on theConnect Fleet web portal and in theConnect Fleet app may differ from

Legal information and requirements
Information about the vehicle is transmitted and processed online when you useConnect Fleet. This data may also
indirectly provide information about the respective driver, e.g. driving behaviour or location. As the person concluding
a Connect Fleet contract with Volkswagen AG, you must ensure that data protection and privacy rights are
guaranteed when your vehicle is used by family members, friends or other drivers. You must inform the respective
driver in advance that the vehicle is transmitting and receiving data online and that you can view this data.
By concluding a Connect Fleet contract for your vehicle, you as the contracting party undertake to inform each driver
that the vehicle can transmit and receive data online, as required by data protection legislation. This also applies if
you sell or lend your vehicle.
This
information is displayed on the Connect Fleet web portal.
Therefore, before driving, ask all occupants if they agree to use of the activated services. If an occupant does not
agree, deactivate the services (if possible) or exclude the occupant from use of the vehicle.
Personal data
Volkswagen AG collects, processes and uses the user’s personal data in accordance with statutory requirements. You
can access the current data protection policy on the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles website.
Volkswagen AG protects your personal data and uses it only to the extent permitted by law, or if you have consented
to its use. Further information on data processing in relation to Connect Fleet services can be found in the current
version of the privacy policies which are available on the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles website and on the
Connect Fleet web portal:
Additionally, theConnect Fleet service in the vehicle is
activated and the globe icon in the Infotainment system lights up white to show that the vehicle is transmitting data,
even if a primary user of We Connect is not logged in.
In the Infotainment system you can see whether a person is assigned to your vehicle as the primary user of
We Connect. In this case, you can register yourself as the primary user of the vehicle and automatically remove the
previous primary user.
