Connectivity for Your Volkswagen Touran 4 Door Third Generation (2022-2025)

Cyber security
Cyber security describes measures that reduce the risk of illegal access to vehicle functions, data and control
modules caused by malware or an Internet attack. Of all the components in the vehicle, connectivity components
are most at risk of unauthorized access or cyber attacks.
Connectivity components comprise control modules for data transmission, interfaces, media and diagnostic
connections through which information and data can be exchanged between the vehicle and mobile devices or the
Internet.
Connectivity components are equipped with security mechanisms to minimize the risk of unauthorized access to
vehicle systems.
Connectivity components include in particular:
Diagnostic connection port
Control module with installedeSIM
card.
Phone interface
App-Connect.
Wi-Fi
® hotspot.
NFC
radio technology.
Bluetooth® interface.
USB
port.
SD
card slot.
The type and number of connectivity components present in your vehicle depends on the vehicle equipment
and the country.
Software and security mechanisms
Software and security mechanisms available in the vehicle undergo continuous development. Similar to computers or
operating systems on cell phones, software and security mechanisms in the vehicle may also be updated at various
times.
Updates improve the security, stability and operating speed of vehicle systems. The update is a preventative measure,
for example, to protect from malware and to optimize functionality.
An update is used to update the software of control modules in the vehicle.
Depending on the vehicle and country, there are two ways to update your vehicle:
Updates by suitably qualified professionals. Volkswagen recommends contacting an authorized Volkswagen dealer
or authorized Volkswagen Service Facility.
Updates via an Over-the-Air Update.
WARNING
Malware can access data and information stored in the control modules, in the Infotainment system and on
connected or paired mobile devices. In spite of the integrated security mechanisms and regular Over-the-Air
Updates, malware can cause damage and malfunctions in control modules and the vehicle. In the same way,
connecting mobile devices that are infected with malware can result in damage and malfunctions in control
modules and the vehicle. The damage can lead to a complete loss of your data and malfunctions can cause serious
339
accidents and fatal injuries.
If the vehicle works or reacts differently to normal, reduce your speed in a controlled manner and contact an
authorized Volkswagen dealer or authorized Volkswagen Service Facility.
Perform pending updates as soon as possible once they are made available or have them performed by suitably
qualified professionals.
Protect your mobile devices with a suitable antivirus program and by taking commonly known precautions.
Regularly update the antivirus program using the supplied updates provided by the vendor.
Minimizing risks
You can actively help to reduce the risk of unauthorized access to vehicle systems and functions by following these
guidelines:
Only use data carriers, Bluetooth devices and cell phones in the vehicle that do not contain any manipulated data
or malware.
Ensure that updates provided by Volkswagen are carried out by suitably qualified professionals as soon as possible
once they are made available. Volkswagen recommends contacting an authorized Volkswagen dealer or authorized
Volkswagen Service Facility. If the option to perform Over-the-Air Updates is available, depending on the vehicle

Introduction
Depending on the country and the vehicle equipment, you can create user accounts for different vehicle users in
your vehicle. This enables you to save individual vehicle settings, such as the air conditioner, to one user account.
User Login After the Ignition is Switched On
If Volkswagen user accounts have been created in the vehicle, a welcome menu will be opened when the ignition is
switched on. The vehicle user can either log in or change users. If the Volkswagen user account has been protected
with an S-PIN
, you will need to enter theS-PIN to log in.
You can activate the Save S-PIN option, so that you will no longer be prompted to enter yourS-PIN
when selecting the Volkswagen user account. However, bear in mind that third parties then have access to your
personal data.
Once a user has logged in, the settings saved in the user profile will be loaded in the vehicle.
Automatic assignment of a Volkswagen user account to the vehicle key
If a vehicle user logs into the vehicle with their Volkswagen user account, the vehicle key that is active in the vehicle
will be automatically assigned to their Volkswagen user account. When opening the vehicle with an assigned vehicle
key, the Volkswagen user account assigned to the vehicle key is suggested for selection in the welcome menu. If the
Volkswagen user account is switched, the new active Volkswagen user account will be assigned to the vehicle key
that is active in the vehicle.
The automatic assignment of the vehicle key to the Volkswagen user account can be deactivated underUsers

Description of user roles
Primary user
The “primary user” role is intended for the registered keeper or for a user of the vehicle who is not merely a
temporary user, e.g. lessee or company car driver. The primary user has unrestricted permissions and can assign
additional permissions to other users of the vehicle by inviting them as secondary users. When a new vehicle
primary user is confirmed, the previous primary user automatically loses the primary user role and permissions.
Secondary user
The “secondary user” role is intended for users who regularly use the vehicle. The secondary users' position differs
from that of primary users, in that they must be invited by the vehicle's primary user. The primary user may delete
a secondary user at any time.
Guest users
The “guest user” role is intended for users who use the vehicle only occasionally or just once. Guest users can log in
to any drivable vehicle without permission of the primary user. Any vehicle user may delete a guest user from the
vehicle at any time. The guest user only has limited access to certain services.
Anonymous guest
368
The “anonymous guest” user role is not assigned to one person. The account is local to the vehicle and cannot be
synchronized with the server. The “anonymous guest” user role is intended for anonymous users. These are users
who have access to the vehicle but do not log in. There is only one account in vehicles with online personalization
and it cannot be deleted. If the “anonymous guest” user role is activated, all vehicle users who are logged in are
temporarily logged out.

personalization, vehicle settings that are changed in the vehicle are automatically assigned to the active Volkswagen
user account and stored online periodically. The vehicle settings are synchronized automatically with the data saved
online in the following situations, when there is an internet connection:
When switching on the ignition and the Infotainment system: synchronizes all recently used Volkswagen user
accounts saved in the vehicle.
When switching to another Volkswagen user account: synchronizes the newly activated and the now deactivated
Volkswagen user account.
