Assembly overview – front airbag, driver side  
The overview shows a left-hand drive vehicle as an example.  
For right-hand drive vehicles, the layout is a mirror image.

Removing and installing airbag unit  
with airbag igniter on driver side [N95]  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ release tool - T10610-  
Airbag unit with airbag igniter on driver side - N95- is referred to  
hereafter as airbag unit.  
4. Front airbag, driver side

Removing  
– Deactivate vehicle’s drive system.  
– Turn steering wheel 90° from straight-ahead position.  
– Insert release tool - T10610- -1- as far as stop into opening  
for locking bracket -2-.  
– Pull release tool - T10610- -1- in direction of -arrow- and  
release locking bracket -2-.

– Turn steering wheel 180°.  
– Repeat release procedure.  
– Apply light pressure onto airbag unit in order to relieve ten‐  
sion from locking bracket.  
– Bring steering wheel to straight-ahead position.  
– Disconnect battery earth cable ⇒ Electrical system; Rep.  
gr. 27 ; Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery .  
CAUTION  
It is possible to trigger pyrotechnic components unintentional‐  
ly.  
Risk of injury  
– Discharge static electricity by briefly touching door striker  
plate.  
NOTICE  
Risk of irreparable damage due to electrostatic discharge.  
– Do not touch connector contacts with your hands.  
– Touch the lifting platform or other earthed object to dis‐  
charge static electricity.

– Pull off airbag unit -3- far enough to gain access to electrical  
connector -1-.  
– Pull out connector lock -2- in direction of -arrow-, press it  
down, and disconnect electrical connector -1-.  
WARNING  
Risk of injury due to unintended deployment of the airbag unit.  
– Place the airbag unit with the airbag facing upwards.  
– Place airbag unit down.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
CAUTION  
It is possible to trigger pyrotechnic components unintentional‐  
ly.  
Risk of injury  
– Discharge static electricity by briefly touching door striker  
plate.  
NOTICE  
Risk of irreparable damage due to electrostatic discharge.  
– Do not touch connector contacts with your hands.  
– Touch the lifting platform or other earthed object to dis‐  
charge static electricity.  
– Fit electrical connector, and push it in until it audibly engag‐  
es.  
– Secure electrical connector on backside of airbag unit.  
– Make sure that no wires are trapped.  
4. Front airbag, driver side

– Position airbag unit in steering wheel, and press it on until it  
engages audibly.

– Connect battery earth cable ⇒ Electrical system; Rep.  
gr. 27 ; Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery .  
CAUTION  
Pyrotechnic components can trigger unintentionally.  
Risk of injury.  
– Keep far away from pyrotechnic components when switch‐  
ing on ignition.  
– Reactivate vehicle’s drive system.  
– Read and clear event memory using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic  
tester.  
4.3  
Renewing connector on airbag  
The airbag unit with airbag igniter on driver side - N95- will  
henceforth be referred to as “airbag unit with igniter”.  
Removing  
– Remove airbag unit with igniter ⇒ Rep. gr. 69 ; Removing  
and installing airbag unit with airbag igniter on driver side  
[N95] .  
CAUTION  
It is possible to trigger pyrotechnic components unintentional‐  
ly.  
Risk of injury  
– Discharge static electricity by briefly touching door striker  
plate.  
– Unhook wiring harness -1- from airbag unit with igniter -2-.  
– Remove wiring harness -1- with electrical connectors -3-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
