Removing and installing crash sensor  
for front airbag [G190]  
Crash sensor for front airbag - G190- is referred to hereafter as  
crash sensor.  
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as  
an example.  
Removing  
WARNING  
Danger of airbag triggering.  
Risk of injury.  
– Check whether the airbag warning lamp lights or flashes.  
– If the airbag warning lamp lights or flashes, read out the  
lk  
event memory.  
– If there is an entry in the event memory, follow the instruc‐  
tions in Guided Fault Finding.  
– Disconnect battery earth cable ⇒ Electrical system; Rep.  
gr. 27 ; Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery .  
– Remove cover for air duct on lock carrier ⇒ Rep. gr. 23 ; Air  
filter; Removing and installing air duct on lock carrier .  
CAUTION  
It is possible to trigger pyrotechnic components unintentional‐  
ly.  
Risk of injury  
– Discharge static electricity by briefly touching door striker  
plate.  
NOTICE  
Risk of irreparable damage due to electrostatic discharge.  
– Do not touch connector contacts with your hands.  
– Touch the lifting platform or other earthed object to dis‐  
charge static electricity.  
8. Airbag crash sensors

– Disconnect electrical connector -1-.  
– Unscrew bolt -2-, and remove crash sensor -3-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
– Connect electrical connector until it engages audibly.  
– Ensure that wire is not trapped.  
– Connect battery earth cable ⇒ Electrical system; Rep.  
gr. 27 ; Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery .  
CAUTION

Pyrotechnic components can trigger unintentionally.  
Risk of injury.  
– Keep far away from pyrotechnic components when switch‐  
ing on ignition.  
– Switch on ignition.  
– Read and clear event memory using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic  
tester.

Removing and installing front side air‐  
bag crash sensor [G179/G180]  
The side airbag crash sensor on driver side - G179- and side  
airbag crash sensor on front passenger side - G180- will hence‐  
forth be referred to as “crash sensor”.  
Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehi‐  
cle as an example.
