Carry out following procedure:  
Removing:  
Note  
♦ The bolts must be loosened or tightened only by hand. When  
loosening or tightening the securing bolts it is only permitted  
to use a power screwdriver if:  
♦ Speed of power screwdriver max. 200 rpm  
♦ Specified torque: max. 3 Nm  
– Unscrew securing bolts -arrows-.  
– Lift filter housing upper part and remove upwards.

– Take out used filter element -arrow-.  
Note  
Observe environmental regulations for disposal.  
Installing:  
– Clean filter housing and install new filter element.  
– Insert filter housing upper part and tighten bolts -arrows-.

Carry out following procedure:  
Removing:  
– Loosen cross head bolts -1-.  
Note  
♦ The bolts must be loosened or tightened only by hand. When  
loosening or tightening the securing bolts it is only permitted  
to use a power screwdriver if:  
♦ Speed of power screwdriver max. 200 rpm  
♦ Specified torque: max. 3 Nm  
– Unscrew hexagon socket head bolts -2-.  
– Raise filter housing upper part and remove upwards.  
– Take out used filter element -arrow-.

Installing:  
– Clean filter housing and install new filter element.

– Tighten hexagon socket head bolts -2-.

AQQ, AUA, AUB, AVY, BBY  
Carry out following procedure:  
Removing:  
– Remove hexagon socket head bolts -arrows- and take off en‐  
gine cover.  
Note  
For vehicles with engine code AVY the engine cover is clipped  
and not bolted.  
– Pull crankcase breather hose -arrow- off filter housing upper  
part and unclip throttle cable -1-.  
– Remove cross-head bolts -arrows-.  
Note  
♦ The bolts must be loosened or tightened only by hand. When  
loosening or tightening the securing bolts it is only permitted  
to use a power screwdriver if:  
♦ Speed of power screwdriver max. 200 rpm  
♦ Specified torque: max. 3 Nm  
– Raise filter housing upper part and remove upwards.

– Take out used filter element -arrow-.  
Note

Installing:  
– Clean filter housing and install new filter element.  
– Screw in cross head bolts -arrows-.  
– Connect crankcase breather hose -arrow- on filter housing  
upper part and clip in throttle cable -1-.  
Note  
For maintenance operation “Renew spark plugs” the engine cover  
must remain removed if necessary.

Engine code AKU  
Carry out following procedure:  
Removing:  
– Raise vehicle.  
– Release securing clips -arrows- and remove filter housing low‐  
er part downwards.

– Take out used filter element -arrow- downwards.  
Note  
Observe environmental regulations for disposal.  
Installing:  
– Clean filter housing and install new filter element.  
– Insert filter housing lower part and secure clips -arrows-.

Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Spring-type clip pliers - V.A.G 1921-  
Carry out following procedure:  
Removing:  
– Unclip caps -1- and remove bolts (below caps).  
– Remove ignition cable -2- from air filter housing.  
– Loosen hose clamp -3- using pliers for spring-type clips -  
V.A.G 1921- and pull hose off.  
– Pull crankcase breather hose -arrow- off air cleaner housing  
and remove filter housing.

– Unscrew cross head bolts -1- and remove filter housing lower  
part.  
Note

– Take out used filter elements -arrows-.

– Insert filter housing lower part and tighten cross head bolts  
-1-.  
Note  
♦ The bolts must be loosened or tightened only by hand. When  
loosening or tightening the securing bolts it is only permitted  
to use a power screwdriver if:  
♦ Speed of power screwdriver max. 200 rpm  
♦ Specified torque: max. 3 Nm  
Note

– Swing cover downwards and unclip.  
Note  
The cover is not fitted on all engines.  
– Remove Torx bolts -arrows- and take out filter housing lower  
part downwards.  
– Take out used filter element -arrow- downwards.  
Note  
Observe environmental regulations for disposal.  
Installing:  
– Clean filter housing and install new filter element.  
– Insert filter housing lower part and tighten Torx bolts  
-arrows-.  
Note  
Install cover if necessary.
